What is a weekend drywall estimator?

A Weekend Drywall Estimator is a construction professional who assesses and calculates the cost, materials, and labor required for drywall installation or repair projects, typically working on weekends to accommodate client schedules or project deadlines. Their responsibilities include reviewing blueprints, visiting job sites, and preparing detailed estimates for drywall work. This role is essential for ensuring accurate project budgets and timelines, and often involves coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and clients. Weekend Drywall Estimators may work independently or as part of a construction or contracting firm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend drywall estimator?

To thrive as a Weekend Drywall Estimator, you need a solid understanding of construction principles, material takeoff, and cost estimation, typically supported by relevant experience or training in construction management. Familiarity with estimation software like PlanSwift or Bluebeam, as well as proficiency in reading blueprints and using spreadsheets, is often required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication with clients and contractors help you stand out in this role. These abilities are crucial for producing accurate bids, meeting deadlines, and building client trust, all of which drive project success.

What are some common challenges faced by a weekend drywall estimator, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Drywall Estimators often face tight deadlines and the need to communicate effectively with clients or contractors who may have limited weekend availability. Additionally, site visits and gathering accurate measurements can be more challenging due to restricted access to project locations during weekends. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish clear communication channels in advance, leverage digital tools for remote assessments when possible, and maintain a flexible but organized schedule to ensure timely and accurate estimates.

An established commercial drywall contractor with over four decades of presence in the Phoenix Valley is seeking an experienced Drywall Estimator to join its Tempe-based team. The company is known for its long-standing industry relationships, high-volume bidding, and a practical, results-oriented culture. This is a chance to work alongside seasoned construction professionals in a fast-paced environment focused on quality, accountability, and delivery.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong estimating background in commercial drywall and metal framing who thrives in a no-frills, highly productive team. The company offers a stable pipeline of projects and the potential to step into a lead estimator track for the right candidate.

  • Strong proficiency in OST and QuickBid (minimum 5 years’ experience)

  • Ability to contribute to annual sales targets of $4–6 million in bid volume

  • Strong understanding of construction documents, scope reviews, and cost structures

  • Comfortable working in a non-corporate, high-output environment

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills

Nice to Have:

  • Previous field experience in drywall or framing

  • Leadership capabilities or prior experience managing an estimating team

Salary

Location
  • Tempe, AZ (On-site role, 95% office-based) Also open to relocating the right candidate

Benefits
