What is a weekend driver?

Weekend drivers are individuals employed to operate vehicles, such as cars, vans, or trucks, primarily on weekends. Their responsibilities often include transporting passengers, delivering goods, or providing ride-sharing services during peak weekend hours. This role is ideal for those seeking flexible, part-time work or supplemental income. Weekend drivers must typically hold a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record. Some positions may also require familiarity with navigation apps or customer service skills.

What is the difference between Weekend Driver vs Delivery Driver?

AspectWeekend DriverDelivery Driver
Required CredentialsValid driver's license, clean driving recordValid driver's license, sometimes specific certifications for certain deliveries
Work EnvironmentPersonal or company vehicle, flexible hours, often on weekendsCompany vehicle or personal vehicle, routes vary, may include weekends
Employer & IndustryLogistics, transportation, courier servicesFood, retail, e-commerce, courier services

Weekend Drivers typically work on weekends providing transportation services, often with flexible hours and a focus on personal or company vehicles. Delivery Drivers also work in transportation but focus on delivering goods, often with specific routes and schedules. Both roles require a valid driver's license and are common in logistics and courier industries, but their primary tasks and work environments differ slightly.

What does a weekend driver do?

A weekend driver works shifts on Saturdays and Sundays delivering packages, transporting cargo, or taking passengers to their destination. The specific responsibilities of these part-time jobs depend on the work and the type of vehicle that you drive. If you work as a weekend truck driver, you transport cargo or make deliveries locally. In a courier position, you pick up and deliver documents, packages, or medical equipment. Food delivery drivers transport food from restaurants to customers. Bus or shuttle drivers carry passengers on a route in a large bus, while rideshare or taxi drivers operate cars or trucks and work on the weekends to provide personalized driving service to passengers.

What are some common challenges weekend drivers face, and how can they overcome them?

Weekend Drivers often encounter heavy traffic, unpredictable schedules, and the need to adapt to last-minute route changes. Staying organized and maintaining clear communication with dispatchers or clients is key to managing these challenges. Additionally, being familiar with local traffic patterns and using navigation apps can help drivers optimize routes and reduce delays. Flexibility and a customer-focused attitude are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and a solid understanding of traffic laws and navigation. Familiarity with GPS systems, route planning apps, and sometimes ride-sharing platforms or delivery software is often required. Excellent time management, customer service skills, and reliability help drivers stand out in this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and satisfactory service to clients during high-demand periods.

About Us:
The Landline Company (landlineco.com) is an innovative ground transportation company that connects airline passengers to major airports through premium motorcoach service in partnership with airlines including American Airlines, Delta, Jet Blue, and Air Canada.

We are running a service between Sonoma County and San Francisco, allowing passengers to check in and transfer luggage seamlessly between our vehicles and partner flights.

The Role:

This role will interview on Aug 19th, 20th, or 25th and will start on/around Sept 15th.

As a Motorcoach Driver, you’re a critical link to a smooth, safe, and enjoyable travel journey. You'll operate on the Airport Operations Area (AOA), navigating both public roadways and the airport tarmac to deliver passengers directly to their designated gate. Because our motorcoaches operate airside, every driver serves a TSA-regulated function, making this role unique among CDL driving jobs. You'll help ensure the security of passengers, baggage, and the aircraft environment by following established security protocols, monitoring your vehicle and secure areas.

You'll complete comprehensive paid training before ever driving on the airfield, including TSA-approved security training, AOA driver certification, and hands-on ride-along with experienced Landline drivers. Ongoing support and refresher training are built into the job. What we need from you is professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

What You'll Do:

  • Operating Landline motorcoaches safely, responsibly, and on schedule along routes and driving the motorcoach onto the Airport Operations Area.
  • Providing a welcoming, courteous experience to all passengers in a safety sensitive environment.
  • Assisting with loading and unloading baggage and cargo (up to 70 lbs per item; may involve pushing carts containing multiple pieces)
  • Completing all DOT, FAA, and company documentation accurately and promptly
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while in uniform and on duty
  • Performing routine fueling and basic vehicle cleaning tasks
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including 3:45AM –1:30AM, weekends and holidays

What We’re Looking For:

  • Valid Class A or B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements
  • A minimum of 3 years of commercial passenger driving experience
  • Ability to pass a preemployment DOT drug test and to participate in random drug and alcohol testing (including Marijuana -this is a Federally Regulated USDOT safety-sensitive position)
  • Ability to pass a preemployment criminal background check to obtain a badge to access secure airport locations
  • Strong customer service orientation and communication skills
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Excellent driving record
  • Experience with Samsara software is a nice to have

Shift: This operation runs from 0345 AM - 0130 AM, 7 days a week.

The Landline Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.
