Job description

The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus department of Respiratory Care is seeking a Respiratory Therapist. This position will be responsible for respiratory therapy duties including oxygen and aerosol therapy, administration of specialty gases, application of ventilators, arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, implement patient driven protocols, and other duties as assigned. Consult with and assist physicians and nurses with respiratory care plan for patients and facilitate the implementation of the physician's orders. Emergency Department staff may also cross train to assist with patient assessment, treatment protocols, EKGs, lines and labs and serve as a resource to the inpatient units.
*Respiratory Therapists must be a graduate of a Commission of Accreditation Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program.
University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa's only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.
Selected candidates with 2+ years of experience may be eligible for a $10,000 sign-on incentive if all qualifications are met including a minimum two-year commitment. ($5,000 sign-on for candidates with less than 2 years of experience). Current UI employees are not eligible.
Hours: 60% Weekend option 10am-10p Sat-Sun.

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a two or four year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program, or completion of the requirements to become registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Possess a current State of Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Possess a current CPR certification card.
  • Obtain registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care within six (6) months of date of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Greater than one year of recent ICU level experience.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record documentation system.
  • Currently registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
