Job description

JOB TITLE: Attorney 

POSITION: Full-Time Employment 

REPORTS TO: Supervising Attorney 

DEPARTMENT: Legal 

PURPOSE: 

The Attorney position is responsible for guiding clients through all stages of the WTC Health Program and 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) processes, from initial intake through claim resolution, including the prosecution of both personal injury and wrongful death claims. This role involves direct client interaction, legal analysis, document drafting, and advocacy, including arguing appeals before the U.S. Department of Justice. The attorney will also provide counsel and support to staff to ensure the timely, accurate, and effective prosecution of claims. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct new client intake to assess eligibility and complete acquisition. 

  • Counsel clients throughout the WTC Health Program and VCF claim processes. 

  • Review medical records and evidence to determine sufficiency for VCF claims. 

  • Draft and review documents supporting VCF submissions. 

  • Provide legal guidance to Client Advocates and client-facing staff. 

  • Represent the firm at networking events to engage potential clients. 

  • Stay current on WTC Health Program and VCF policies, procedures, and legal developments. 

  • Apply specialized legal knowledge to deliver high-quality work on time. 

  • Collaborate across teams and contribute to firmwide initiatives. 

  • Identify challenges within casework and propose effective solutions. 

  • Log all communications, documents, and data points in Salesforce. 

  • Maintain weekend availability for client intake and lead vetting. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Juris Doctor degree and admission to the New York State bar. 

  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a practicing attorney. 

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. 

  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills. 

  • Must have familiarity and experience with WTCHP & VCF rules, guidelines, and claim processes. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Salesforce experience preferred. 

  • Ability to review and interpret medical documentation. 

  • Creative, solutions-oriented problem solver with sound judgment. 

  • Team-oriented, professional, and committed to ethical conduct. 

  • In-office presence Monday–Thursday, with Friday as an optional remote day. 

SALARY: 

$90,000-$125,000
