We encourage participation in a variety of recreational opportunities that foster enjoyment and lifelong learning. http://www.recreater.com/ POSITION DETAILS: Non-exempt; part-time; year around position; 10-15 hours per week; varied day and evening hours to include weekends; scheduled hours for this position will coincide with the facility's hours of operation. This position primarily assists with the coordination and direct leadership of activities and rentals in an assigned Recreation Center

Locations include Brunswick Recreation Center, Centerville Recreation Center, Deer Crossing Recreation Center, Middletown Recreation Center, Oakdale Recreation Center, Sugarloaf Recreation Center, Thurmont Recreation Center, Tuscarora Recreation Center, Walkersville Recreation Center, and upcoming Valley Recreation Center. This position will lead various recreation programs and monitor organized activities such as team sports, fitness classes, arts & craft classes, martial arts classes, after-school enrichment programs and more. Supervision is received from the Recreation Center Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Open and prepare the facility for the complete schedule of activities Facilitate the classroom, gymnasium, equipment, and amenity access for recreation programs, facility user groups and customers Actively lead various recreational activities Monitor and manage drop-in sports programs in gymnasiums, birthday parties, and community user groups Greet customers and assist with check-in Inspect all areas and equipment, prior to use, to ensure customer safety Administer first aid when needed Monitor activities and customer interactions to ensure that customers conform to established standards for conduct and rules Maintain the facility in an orderly manner Ensure all equipment is accounted for and properly organized and stored Prepare accident/incident reports and other customer reports Receive customer concerns, suggestions, and inquiries and communicate them to Supervisor Perform daily maintenance and cleaning tasks Effectively communicate with customers, coworkers, and school personnel Perform other duties as assigned To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform all essential functions satisfactorily.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS The qualifications/requirements, knowledge/skills/abilities and physical requirements or working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

18 years of age or older KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES: A successful incumbent operating in this role displays the following: Basic knowledge of sporting activities and rules of play Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified within 30 days of hire (certification must be maintained throughout employment) Ability to directly lead and instruct skill-based activities such as baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. Ability to effectively evaluate emergencies and unexpected situations and promptly respond in an appropriate manner Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school personnel, and customers Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills including accurate clerical and record-keeping skills, and ability to effectively explain facility rules and/or rules of sports gameplay PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR: Experience in leading sports and recreation programs, camps or related activities Experience communicating with customers Possession of current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / EXAMINATION PROCESS Ability to provide own transportation to assigned locations EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include): 1) An evaluation of training and experience 2) One or more interviews 3) A pre-employment fingerprint supported background investigation Frederick County Government is committed to providing an inclusive work environment and complies with all applicable laws and regulations regarding workplace accommodation, including for individuals with disabilities.
