What is a Weekend Creative?

A Weekend Creative is someone who pursues creative projects, such as photography, writing, art, design, or content creation, primarily during the weekends. This role is often taken by individuals who have full-time jobs or other commitments during the week but want to explore their artistic passions in their free time. Weekend Creatives might freelance, build portfolios, or work on personal projects, using weekends to hone their skills and express their creativity. This approach allows them to balance their creative interests with other responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Creative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Creative, you need a strong portfolio showcasing creative content, proficiency in design or media production, and ideally a background in marketing or communications. Familiarity with creative software such as Adobe Creative Suite, social media management tools, and project collaboration platforms is typically required. Standout soft skills include adaptability, strong time management, and effective communication to deliver high-quality work within tight weekend timelines. These skills are crucial for producing compelling, on-brand content efficiently and collaborating smoothly with clients or teams during condensed work periods.

What are some common challenges faced by a Weekend Creative, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Creatives often balance tight deadlines and multiple projects within a limited timeframe, which can make time management challenging. Collaborating efficiently with clients and team members who may have standard weekday hours requires clear communication and proactive scheduling. To succeed, it’s important to set clear boundaries, prioritize tasks, and make use of digital collaboration tools to stay connected with your team. Additionally, taking time to recharge during off-hours helps maintain creativity and prevent burnout.

What is the difference between Weekend Creative vs Freelance Graphic Designer?

AspectWeekend CreativeFreelance Graphic Designer

Employer/Industry UsageOften hired by companies for weekend or part-time projectsHired directly by clients or agencies for various projects
Search/Comparison IntentLooking for part-time or weekend design workSeeking freelance or independent design opportunities

Weekend Creative roles usually involve part-time, project-based work often within a company or agency, focusing on weekend or flexible hours. Freelance Graphic Designers operate independently, managing their own clients and schedules, offering greater flexibility but less job security. Both roles require strong design skills and portfolios, but differ mainly in employment structure and work environment.

Job description

Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America's boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country's biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

We are looking for a concept-driven, strategically minded Associate Creative Director (ACD) to help drive high-profile creative campaigns for the Stand Together brand and its network of partners, including globally recognized names in music, sports, lifestyle, and film. In this role, you will blend vision, content strategy, and innovative thinking with a deep understanding of storytelling and its ability to move audiences. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a culturally significant impact while advancing our mission-driven goals through exceptional creative work.
What You Will Do
  • Support the Creative Director as a hands-on leader for each project, collaborating with cross-functional leaders to ensure work is strategic and best-in-class.
  • Partner with art directors, designers, and video producers to deliver creative concepts and executions that go beyond informing or entertaining-our goal is cultural resonance. We're not selling a product; we're creating paradigm shifts.
  • Support creative efforts throughout the lifecycle of campaigns and partnerships, providing guidance and oversight to ensure excellence.
  • Strategize platform-specific executions, ensuring concepts thrive across digital, social, video, print, and events.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to junior and mid-level creatives, helping them refine concepts and sharpen execution.
  • Write persuasive, engaging, and on-brand copy across a variety of channels (digital, social, video, experiential, print).
  • Translate complex ideas into simple, powerful messages that resonate with audiences.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions, pitch concepts, and present ideas with confidence to both internal teams and clients.
  • Infuse our philosophy and principles into stories and creative expressions that deeply connect with audiences.

What You Will Bring
  • 7+ years of experience in a conceptual creative role at an agency, publisher, media company, in-house at a brand, or similar organization.
  • A strong portfolio including video, OOH, print, digital, social, and longform work samples.
  • Strong presentation/pitching skills to generate support from internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Superior writing skills, with an ability to crystallize complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Strong communication skills to nurture senior cross-departmental relationships.
  • A solutions-first mindset.
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.
Standout Candidates Will Bring
  • Branding and its various expressions.
  • Navigating a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience with behavior change campaigns.
What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.
  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,300 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.
  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents.
  • Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive.

$125,000 - $150,000 a year

For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $125,000 -$150,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee's overall contribution to the organization.

Our Principles-Based Management (PBM) compensation philosophy is grounded in an individualized approach that rewards the long-term value each person creates for the organization. Compensation decisions are informed by a variety of factors, including relevant experience, capabilities, demonstrated skills, role responsibilities, and expected contribution. Consistent with this approach, base salary may vary within or outside of the anticipated range based on these considerations.

Our Values: Working for an organization within the Stand Together philanthropic community is different from many other places. The culture is deeply rooted in Principle Based Management (PBM), a framework guided by the principles that drive human progress, such as dignity, openness, and bottom-up empowerment. PBM empowers employees to be entrepreneurial, to innovate, and to continually drive transformation.

We believe diversity fuels creativity, broadens knowledge, and helps drive success.  That is why we're proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and strive to treat all employees and applicants with honesty, dignity, and respect.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
