News Producer

WCVB, Hearst Television's market-leading ABC affiliate in Boston, is looking for a News Producer who excels at creating compelling, memorable content in a fast-paced news environment. The ideal candidate can construct a clear, creative vision for each newscast and communicate that vision effectively to the team. This role requires a strong collaborator who thrives in a newsroom setting and can develop multi-platform content. You are a pro when it comes to making editorial decisions under pressure and adapting as stories evolve. You know how to own breaking news and produce an impactful product that resonates with our viewers. You are fast, flexible, and work well in a room full of experienced professionals who share the same passion and commitment to quality journalism. 

Responsibilities

  • Build memorable newscasts using creative showcasing, concise writing, and skillful storytelling 

  • Write compelling news stories in active voice
  • Coordinate creative vision with team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff
  • Act quickly and decisively during breaking news, effectively delivering need-to-know information to a broad audience
  • Demonstrate a commanding presence in the control room, clearly communicating to production staff and on-air team
  • Display a digital-first mindset, collaborating with digital editors to amplify engagement across web and social platforms and posting stories and video as often as possible
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with promotions and engineering teams
  • Be an everyday story idea contributor 

Requirements

  • Professional newscast producing experience
  • Proven writing and copy-editing skills for both linear and digital
  • Ability to collaborate with assignment editors in dispatching crews
  • Creative presentation style and ability to showcase all resources and elements
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
  • Must be available to work holidays, night/weekend/overnight shifts, and be flexible during breaking news
  • Video editing skills a plus
  • Related military experience will be considered

Salary

The estimated base salary range for this role is between $70,000 and $82,000.  The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
