Job Summary
Oversees and provides a physically and emotionally safe environment for the patrons of a summer camp. Prepares and implements well-planned recreational activities for all patrons attending summer camps. This is a seasonal classification and incumbents are not employed for an entire year.
Essential Functions
  • Creates an atmosphere of fun, cooperation, fairness and learning for the patrons of the summer camp programs; maintains good communication with supervisors, coworkers and parents.
  • Oversees the activities of the children under supervision at all times in the facility; supervises proper use, storage and care of equipment and supplies at the facility.
  • Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors environment to ensure safety of children, other employees, and other individuals; adheres to Department of Children and Families (DCF) policies and procedures for childcare at all times.
  • Reports major problems, concerns and accidents to supervisors and/or site director; prepares accident reports, discipline reports, attendance reports, DCF reports and evaluation reports to submit to supervisor and/or parents of the children; maintains a daily sign in/sign out record of all children at the facility.
  • Prepares weekly schedule of events for the children of the camp programs including but not limited to arts and crafts, basketball, football, volleyball and soccer; arrives on time or ahead of schedule to prepare for the daily activities such as setting up tables and chairs and/or picking up trash inside and outside of the facility.
  • Provides fair, consistent discipline; monitors the children to ensure safety; communicates with parents; takes and records attendance; maintains sanitary conditions; organizes program supplies.
  • Adheres to rules, regulations and procedures on a daily basis including proper disciplinary procedures, proper use and storage of equipment, the application of first aid and CPR, attendance at any and all counselor meetings; proper and accurate use of timecards and reports and proper use of forms; follows field trip rules and procedures.
  • Monitors the conduct and activities of the patrons of camps; responds to situations involving disruptive behavior, suspicious behavior, potential medical problems, or other problems; reports problems to appropriate personnel; initiates calls for police, fire, or emergency medical services as needed.
  • Maintains offices and storage areas including cleaning restrooms and counters, empties trash and sorts recycling items, stocks supplies, and sweeps floors.
    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 16 years of age.
  • Some experience in summer camp program or after school program is desirable.
  • Fingerprinting required.
    LICENSES/CERTIFICATES
  • Must possess and maintain First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
