Our Brooklyn, New York location is looking for a supportive individual to join our team as Ground Person/Flagger. As a Flagger / Groundsperson, you will play a vital role in supporting our field operations and protecting our crew, property, and the public. In this position, you are on the front lines of safety—managing traffic flow, maintaining secure job site perimeters, and ensuring all work in and around our sites strictly adheres to our high safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Colossal's safety standards and communicate applicable safety requirements and job site procedures to team members, pedestrians, property representatives, and regulatory personnel as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and the public in person and through phone, text, email, and company-approved communication platforms.
  • Set up and secure job sites by placing cones, signage, ground protection, car covers, ladders, caution tape, cone bars, and other required safety equipment.
  • Comply with applicable DOT, DOB, and other regulatory requirements while performing assigned duties.
  • Wear and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility apparel and flagging equipment, in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations.
  • General support function for our paint staff including passing equipment, basic knot tying, moving equipment, staging materials, etc.
  • Performs routine shop and maintenance duties as needed to support operational requirements, in accordance with established Colossal procedures and safety standards
  • Assist the Shop Manager and Painters on the shop floor with various tasks including but not limited to cleaning quarts, stocking inventory, cleaning the shop, and organizing the shop floor.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the shop as needed.
  • Represent Colossal in a professional manner when interacting with coworkers, customers, vendors, and the public.

Education and Experience 
Required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30 hour Construction course.

Preferred:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in construction.
  • Previous experience working from suspended scaffolds.

Knowledge, skill, and ability:

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while completing assigned tasks.
  • Effective verbal communication skills; ability to speak, read, and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, customers, property representatives, and the public.
  • Basic computer and smartphone proficiency, including Internet navigation, Google Workspace, and Slack.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and comply with Colossal's safety policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to safely work from ladders and carry ladders, tools, equipment, and materials to and from work sites.
  • Working knowledge of basic construction tools, materials, and techniques.
  • General knowledge of applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations related to the position.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and basic construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely climb and work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and promptly report or address them in accordance with company procedures.
  • Basic mathematical skills sufficient to perform measurements, material calculations, and other routine construction-related tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing operational needs.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to protecting people, property, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness in active work zones and respond appropriately to changing conditions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  •  This position is spent outdoors, requiring the ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • The physical demands for this position include heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), extensive bending, pushing, reaching, seeing (with a focus on reading, color distinction, acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision), sitting less than 50% of the time, long hours on feet
    standing, stooping, talking, turning, walking, driving, and climbing.
  • Nights spent away from home traveling are less than 10%.
  • On-call shifts may be required
