Job description

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Cold Storage Design Manager to lead the planning, design, and coordination of refrigerated warehouse and food processing facility projects. This role is ideal for a technical leader with a strong background in industrial refrigeration, cold storage building systems, and multidisciplinary project coordination.

The successful candidate will oversee the design process from concept through construction, ensuring projects meet client requirements, industry standards, and company quality objectives while delivering innovative, efficient, and constructible solutions.


Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural and engineering design of cold storage, freezer, cooler, and food processing facilities.

• Manage multidisciplinary design teams, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and civil consultants.

• Develop conceptual layouts, facility plans, and design standards.

• Review and approve construction drawings, specifications, and design packages.

• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, fire protection requirements, OSHA regulations, food safety requirements, and client specifications.

• Coordinate with project managers, estimating, construction, and commissioning teams throughout the project lifecycle.

• Provide technical guidance on insulated building envelopes, vapor barriers, thermal performance, refrigeration integration, and energy-efficient facility design.

• Participate in client meetings, presentations, and value engineering workshops.

• Develop and maintain company CAD/BIM standards and design procedures.

• Mentor designers and engineers while promoting continuous improvement and technical excellence.


Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.

• 8+ years of experience designing industrial cold storage, refrigerated warehouses, food processing facilities, or similar industrial projects.

• Previous experience leading multidisciplinary design teams.

• Strong understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and refrigerated building construction.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.

• Experience coordinating BIM models and consultant drawings.

• Knowledge of International Building Code (IBC), International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), ASHRAE guidelines, and applicable fire and life safety standards.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budgets.


Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer (preferred but not required).

• Experience with ammonia (NH3) and CO2 refrigeration facilities.

• Familiarity with food manufacturing and FDA/USDA-regulated facilities.

• Experience with ASME, IIAR, and NFPA standards applicable to refrigerated facilities.

• LEED or other sustainability accreditation is a plus.
