JOB SUMMARY: 

The Coding Specialist operates as a member of the Coding Department within Revenue Cycle Management. The Coding Specialist is responsible for abstracting all CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, modifier, and units from the medical record documentation for pro-fee billing.  

SCHEDULE: 

Monday-Friday - 8am-4:30pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  Reviews medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
based on payer, provider, and/or location billing requirements.
 Ensures coding compliance with federal regulations, payer policies, and industry
standards.
 Identify and resolve documentation deficiencies; communicate with providers
when clarification is needed
 Validates documentation supports level of service selection
 Utilizes coding software, encoder and other resources provided
 Stay current on coding updates, payer guidelines, and healthcare regulations.
 Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
 Optimize claims for accurate, maximum reimbursement
 Support overall revenue cycle efficiency
 Maintains productivity goals set by department
 Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION: 

 High school diploma or equivalent required   

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: 

 Active coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC, CIC, COC, CRC,
   CPMA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-A, etc.)
 Minimum of 1-year hands-on medical coding experience
 Strong working knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, & HCPCS coding systems
 Ability to work independently
 Strong knowledge of MDM leveling and E/M coding guidelines
 Fluent written and spoken English required.
