Position Description: CNC Machine Operator - Haas ST-30/ST-25 & VF-4 

At LayerZero Power Systems, LLC. we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machine Operator to operate and maintain Haas ST-30/ST-25 lathes and VF-4 vertical mills. The ideal candidate will be proficient in G-code programming and capable of setting up, running, and inspecting precision-machined components in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. 

Requirements

Primary Duties: 

  • Set up and operate Haas ST-30/ST-Series CNC lathes and Haas VF-4 milling centers according to production requirements. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions to determine machining operations, tooling, and tolerances. 
  • Load raw materials, secure workpieces, and verify proper machine alignment and offsets. 
  • Input and adjust tool wear, fixture offsets, feeds, and speeds as needed to maintain part accuracy. 
  • Perform basic program edits at the control for efficiency, toolpath adjustments, or dimensional corrections. 
  • Monitor machining processes to ensure proper tool performance, part finish, and cycle-time adherence. 
  • Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measurement tools. 
  • Complete in-process inspections and document quality results in accordance with company procedures. 
  • Change tooling, inserts, fixtures, and workholding components as needed. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning machines, checking lubrication systems, inspecting coolant levels, and removing chips. 
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and notify maintenance or supervisors of mechanical or quality concerns. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area following 5S and safety standards. 
  • Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and production leads to support continuous improvement activities. 

Experience & Skills: 

  • Prior experience operating CNC machines, specifically Haas lathes or mills (ST series, VF series) preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, speeds/feeds, and G-code basics. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and machining symbols. 
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and performing accurate inspections. 
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot machine, tool, or material issues. 
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet production deadlines. 
  • Ability to lift or move materials using proper techniques or mechanical assistance. 

Education: 

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent credentials.
