Job description

Job Requirements

Performs a critical role in supporting clinical and translational research by leading customer engagement, translating research needs into technical solutions, and delivering high-quality data resources. This position works closely with faculty, study teams, and technical staff to ensure timely, accurate, and mission-aligned data delivery. As a core member of a high-performance team, they will ensure data pipelines are consistently and reliably maintained and analytics capabilities are delivered at an optimum level, helping the organization identify research insights from a large number of diverse datasets.

       Customer Engagement & Requirements Gathering

Lead scoping and documentation of clinical research data requests, ensuring clarity and alignment with organizational objectives.

       Technical Translation of Research Needs

Translate clinical and research requirements into actionable technical specifications, including SQL queries and data model designs.

       Data Solution Development

Design, build, and maintain data resources such as relational databases, data marts, data lakes, and flat files (.csv) for research use.

       SQL Query Development & Validation

Write, test, and optimize SQL queries to extract and transform data, contributing to code reviews and ensuring data quality.

       Project Coordination & Timely Delivery

Execute data requests within defined scope and timelines, maintaining responsiveness to a one-business-day service level agreement (SLA).

       Data Quality Assurance

Identify and resolve data anomalies, validate new data sources, and troubleshoot data quality issues to ensure reliability.

       Ad Hoc Data Analysis

Provide flexible, on-demand data analysis to support business decisions and research inquiries.

       Documentation & Standards Development

Contribute to the standardization of documentation and adoption of best practices, including writing specifications and job aids.

       Technology & Product Research

Investigate new tools, technologies, and data sources to improve research capabilities and inform future development.


Work Experience

Education & Experience - Required

       Bachelor's degree in health science related field (e.g. biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g. computer science, engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited institution

       At least two (2) years of experience writing reports using healthcare data against EHR data warehouses (e.g. Epic Clarity or Cerner Millennium etc. ).

       At least two (2) years of experience using standardized clinical code systems (e.g. ICD10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, UMLS) and common data models (OMOP)

       At least two (2) years of experience in a healthcare reporting or biomedical research environment working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation

       At least two (2) years of SQL programming expertise

Education & Experience - Preferred

       Master's degree in a health science related field (e.g. biostatistics, epidemiology, etc.) or technology (e.g. computer science, engineering, etc.), or a related field from an accredited institution

       Five or more years of experience writing reports using healthcare data against Epic data warehouses (Clarity or Caboodle).

       Five or more years of experience using standardized clinical code systems (e.g. ICD10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, UMLS) and common data models (OMOP)

       Five or more years of experience in a healthcare reporting or biomedical research environment working with enterprise data warehouses, including data profiling, data quality assessments, data analysis/reporting, data set curation

       Five or more years of SQL programming expertise

       Epic Certified in Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, and/or Clinical Data Model

       Advanced BI Developer skills

       Experience managing terminology mapping documentation, data profiling and data mapping documentation

       Experience with data manipulation languages (e.g. SAS, R, Python)

       Experience with graph database(s) especially Neo4j and Cypher

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

       Experience working within HIPAA-compliant or other highly confidential data environments

       Experience working in an academic core service or research support service

       Excellent customer service skills

       Excellent written and oral communication skills

       BI developer skills (e.g. Tableau reports, Power BI)

       Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong inter-personal skills

       Ability to communicate with cross functional teams, ability to support development of BI dashboards and reports, and data analytic initiatives

       Advanced communication skills and proficiency with MS Office
