Job description


Overview: As Night Watchman, you will provide security to the feedlot and assist in loading and/or unloading cattle shipments. Monitor cleanup time on feed bunks.
Essential functions
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Periodically drive the feedlot to ensure yard is secure.
  • Communicate with Cattle Manager on all arrivals.
  • Document everyone entering the feedlot.
  • Unload cattle trucks, check headcounts and condition, weigh, and complete required paper work to ensure correctness and report to Cattle Manager.
  • Oversee loading of fat cattle and verify headcounts.
  • Write up watch reports regarding unusual events or problems that may arise.
  • Read and record cleanup of feed bunks at 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
  • Maintain general housekeeping.
  • Comply with all OSHA/Safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adequate mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide number.
  • Knowledge of cattle feedlot industry highly desirable.
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours as required
  • This individual must have the ability to work with a team, or individually.
  • Ability to communicate in English is preferred, not required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks when appropriate.
Supervisory responsibilities
  • None 
Work environment
  • You will be required to work at times in extreme weather conditions, such as rain, snow, wind, heat, cold.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday.
Physical demands
  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work extended late night hours 10-11 hours per shift.
  • This individual must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Travel required

Required education and experience
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 month’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience working grave yard or overnight shifts.
