Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aeronautical Data Analyst in our St. Louis, MO. In this role, you'll play a critical part in processing and maintaining high-quality aeronautical data that powers aviation systems around the world. Whether you're an experienced data analyst, a licensed pilot with a knack for systems, or someone with a strong understanding of airspace and navigation - this is your opportunity to help shape the future of flight data. As an Aeronautical Data Analyst, you'll be responsible for editing, validating, and enhancing aeronautical data using proprietary and third-party tools. You'll ensure data accuracy, follow quality assurance processes, and help deliver trusted products to our aviation customers. Essential Functions
  • Edit, manipulate and maintain aeronautical data using custom and 3rd party software
  • Ensure application of appropriate aeronautical specifications to the data/products
  • Help evaluate/process database updates according to established methodology
  • Identify/resolve basic issues or risks using proper aeronautical data capture techniques
  • Conduct testing/evaluation of Garmin aeronautical data products
  • Perform established operations for quality assurance and execute tasks as directed by Team Leader or mentor
  • Understand and follow Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy
  • Demonstrate fundamental understanding of Garmin's Aeronautical Data development process
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a collaborative team environment to achieve goals
  • Demonstrate ability to use production tools
  • Contribute/suggest ideas on continuous improvement freely and positively
  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of thoroughly documenting work in an organized manner
  • Demonstrate ability to learn, understand and apply established or new processes with the ability to provide input related to processes/projects
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize/process multiple source types; translate/culminate necessary information for tasks within standard framework
  • Incorporate field knowledge within documented standards framework to identify and creatively solve problems
  • Maintain/utilize knowledge of industry standards as basis for accurate and dependable data input and manipulation
  • Acquire/maintain DO-200A associate qualifications according to applicable sections of the Personnel Qualification Manual
  • Acquire and maintain DO-200A initial and follow-on training requirements according to applicable sections of the Training Plan
  • Insert, update, and delete records in AeroNavData's DO-200A qualified database
  • Process aeronautical source from the Standard and Non-Standard Aeronautical Information Publications (AIPs) listed in the Data Source Manual
  • Acquire a basic understanding of the ARINC 424 specifications
  • Interface with NFDC and AeroNav Products associates via e-mail or phone when directed
  • Interface with Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) via e-mail or phone when directed
  • Use and understand database queries written for our Microsoft SQL Server database using the Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Periodic over-time, holiday, and weekend work may be necessary

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in aviation OR private pilot rating OR minimum of 1 year experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description that would allow the associate to complete the essential functions of the Aeronautical Analyst position
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrate a basic working knowledge and understanding of aeronautical charting principles relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Demonstrates industry standards knowledge
  • Demonstrate great typing skills, familiarity and proficiency with PC applications and Windows Operating System (OS), and the ability to learn new software programs quickly
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision and demonstrate ability to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced, and challenging environment
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and technical communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability to work and thrive in a technical environment
  • Demonstrate ability to complete well defined basic tasks

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous work experience as a TERPS Specialist or aeronautical information specialist
  • Private pilot license with instrument rating
  • Demonstrate an understanding of instrument flight rules, instrument procedures, and the United States National Airspace System
  • Database skills and SQL knowledge
  • Familiarity with Cartography, GIS principles and methodologies
  • Bilingual skills
