Job description

Driver, Local (AM & PM Weekend)

Clarksville

Nearest Major Market: Clarksville Nearest Secondary Market: Nashville

The Local Truck Driver position based out of Clarksville, TN, will handle deliveries within a specific area with care, professionalism, and precision. Benefit of Driving with DSV Local drivers start at $ 33.00 an hour which includes shift differential for working on the weekend Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance (eligible on the first of the month following 30 days of employment). Company paid short-term & long-term disability and life insurance. 401K plan with up to 5% company match. Generous PTO package – including vacation, sick time, birthday holiday, 3 floating holidays, and 6 paid holidays a year. Bi-weekly pay with Daily Pay options. $1,000 Referral Bonus Program. Cell phone allowance. Paid orientation including transportation, lodging, and meals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform local pickup and delivery (P&D) routes within an assigned service area; home daily
  • Safely operate a CDL A commercial vehicle while adhering to all DOT and company regulations
  • Complete multiple stops per day, including pickups, deliveries, and potential returns
  • Provide white glove service, including handling sensitive, high-value, or time-critical freight with care
  • Interact professionally with customers, ensuring clear communication and high service standards at all delivery points
  • Accurately complete and manage shipping documents, proof of delivery (POD), and electronic logs (ELD)
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance
  • Safely back trailers into docks and maneuver in tight or congested delivery locations
  • Secure cargo properly to prevent damage during transport
  • Communicate proactively with dispatch regarding route updates, delays, or service issues
  • Ensure freight is properly staged, loaded, and unloaded according to customer and operational requirements
  • Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately
  • Maintain compliance with all DOT requirements, including hours of service and drug/alcohol policies
  • Support team operations by assisting with loading/unloading or dock coordination when needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support local operations

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid CDL A License required
  • Minimum 2 years of CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years (3+ years preferred)
  • Minimum 1yr Medical Certificate - Minimum ICC requirements related to physical qualifications as set forth under Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 391.41, Physical Qualifications of Drivers.
  • Must meet DOT qualification requirements (FMCSR 391.41)
  • No positive drug or alcohol test results in the past five (5) yrs.
  • No accident involving bodily injury within the last three (3) yrs.
  • No DUI/DWI, Reckless Driving or Speeding Tickets 12mph or higher in the past (5) yrs.
  • Experience in local P&D operations, multi-stop routing, and urban driving environments preferred
  • Strong understanding of load securement and freight handling
  • Ability to navigate efficiently using GPS and route planning tools
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and professionalism in customer-facing environments
  • Experience handling high-value or sensitive freight preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a commercial vehicle and perform physical freight handling activities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle
  • Use hands and fingers to operate steering wheel, controls, GPS, and electronic logging devices
  • Frequently enter and exit the cab (4–6 feet) multiple times per shift
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull freight ranging from 1–125 pounds (team lift or equipment-assisted when required)
  • Lift up to 50 pounds independently
  • Frequently reach at or above shoulder height, at waist level, and below waist level
  • Bend, twist, squat, kneel, and crouch during loading/unloading and inspections
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor and trailer
  • Hook/unhook trailers, operate landing gear, fifth wheel release, and related equipment
  • Walk and stand for portions of the shift on surfaces such as concrete, metal, or dock plates, which may be uneven, wet, or slippery
  • Operate foot pedals and manual transmission (if applicable)

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee works in a combination of environments including inside a truck cab and outdoors at customer locations, terminals, and on public roadways.
  • The position requires regular exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind during loading and unloading activities.
  • The employee may also be exposed to diesel fumes, airborne particles, noise, and vibration associated with operating commercial vehicles.
  • Work is frequently performed in busy warehouse yards, loading docks, and urban delivery environments, which may include tight spaces, traffic congestion, and time-sensitive delivery schedules.
  • Noise levels can range from moderate inside the cab to loud at customer sites and industrial locations.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $30.50 – $33.50 hourly rate. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
