Job description

Summary The Valley County Parks & Recreation Department is seeking professional Campground Hosts to serve as the primary on-site representatives for the Horsethief and Wellington Campgrounds. Typically residing at the campground, these individuals (or couples) provide a welcoming presence and ensure the general cleanliness and order of the facility. Working closely with the Campground Coordinator and fellow hosts, the Campground Host acts as the "eyes and ears" of the county, facilitating a positive experience for visitors while helping to protect Valley County's natural resources.

Please note that the Campground Host position is a voluntary service appointment rather than traditional employment. Typical Duties & Responsibilities The Campground Host is the first point of contact for visitors, greeting campers with a friendly demeanor and providing essential information regarding local amenities, regulations, and site availability. To ensure a high-quality environment, the Host regularly patrols the grounds to monitor stay limits, quiet hours, and proper food storage or trash disposal.

Maintaining the beauty of the facility is a core duty; the Host performs daily cleaning and light maintenance of high-use areas, including vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. Between guest arrivals, the Host ensures campsites are raked and free of litter. Additionally, this role supports administrative compliance by checking for valid parking or camping permits and monitoring "Iron Ranger" self-pay stations.

The Host maintains a professional line of communication with the Campground Coordinator, Idaho Fish and Game, and local law enforcement to report infrastructure damage, supply needs, or emergency situations. Typical Qualifications The ideal Campground Host is a community-minded individual with excellent customer service skills and a deep appreciation for Idaho's recreation areas.

We are seeking reliable candidates who can balance rule enforcement with diplomacy to resolve conflicts and assist "unhappy campers" effectively. To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria: Possession of a fully self-contained RV or travel trailer and a willingness to reside on-site for the duration of the assignment. Capability to work 15-20 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, on an alternating schedule with other hosts.

Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check to maintain a high standard of public trust. Basic computer literacy for using digital reservation and check-in systems, along with local knowledge of nearby services and attractions. Willingness and ability to perform outdoor tasks-such as cleaning restrooms, clearing fire rings, and litter pickup-in various weather conditions.

When applying, please include a resume or detailed work history that clearly shows where you gained the experience required to perform this job. Compensation Valley County Parks & Recreation offers a package designed for dedicated RV enthusiasts: Hosts receive a stipend of $50.00 per site (couples share one stipend), per day for each day of their assigned shift. This is a nominal reimbursement intended to offset personal expenses incurred while on-site and is not an hourly wage or salary

A designated Host Campsite is provided at no cost for the duration of the term. Hosts must provide their own self-contained RV or camper, maintained to a neat and clean standard (tents and soft-sided pop-ups are generally not permitted). Hiring is done without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity and expression, pregnancy, or genetics.

In addition, preference may be given to veterans who qualify under state and federal laws and regulations. https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/valleycoid
