Job description

Position Summary:
The Technology Specialist Tier 1 Intern will be mentored and taught to support the goals of the district and technology department by maintaining systems, peripherals, applications, and network infrastructure. This position provides technology-related assistance to all staff as directed by the Technology Coordinator. This candidate will be mentored and taught how to install, maintain, operate, and repair technology equipment, including hardware and software at all district locations. This is a 12-month position and will work the entire year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned.)


  1. Makes decisions and demonstrates actions that support the mission, vision, goals, and interests of the school district and of students.
  2. Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, staff, and guests.
  3. Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information. Utilizes confidential and personal information for professional purposes only in accordance with school district policy and regulations.
  4. Provides hardware and software support of all staff and students in the school district as directed by the Technology Coordinator.
  5. Assists staff with technology projects including classroom audio and video setups.
  6. Ensures efficient and timely responses to technology helpdesk tickets
  7. Assists the Technology Coordinator in planning for the delivery of services to staff and coordinating the use of technology for teaching and learning.
  8. Supports the use of instructional software in the school district.
  9. Maintains, operates, and distributes computer equipment and software as assigned.
  10. Responsible for setting up equipment for special programs and meetings as required. Flexible hours may be assigned.
  11. Assists in managing the school district's technology resources through equipment scheduling and inventory maintenance.
  12. Assists in maintaining the school district's telecommunications systems, website, and Internet presence.
  13. Installs, monitors and updates software as needed.
  14. Performs maintenance tasks on high-use software. Adjusts network user rights and permissions when necessary.
  15. Assists in the operation of the school district's ticketing system.
  16. Completes work in established time frame seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed, or pace is slow. Consistently arrives at work on time and completes all tasks as directed.
  17. Informs the administrator immediately of the existence of any problems deemed to warrant prompt attention, advice, or intervention.
  18. Performs special assignments and other duties as determined by the administrator.


Qualifications Experiences:

  • A completed High School diploma. 30 plus semester hours of college level credit preferred but not required.
  • 1-3+ years technology education and/or training support experience, focus in an educational setting preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills for troubleshooting and research

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Experience with Google Workspace/Google Workspace for Education preferred
  • Experience with Apple School Manager (ASM) / Apple Business Manager (ABM) preferred
  • Experience with Mosyle, JAMF, or other MDM preferred
  • Experience with macOS, iPadOS, Chrome OS, and Windows operating systems preferred
  • Experience with classroom audio/video, document cameras, and projectors preferred
  • Experience with GoGuardian or similar content filtering software preferred
  • Experience with PowerSchool or similar SIS preferred
  • Experience with Infinite Visions or similar educational ERP preferred
  • Experience with National and State of IL educational assessment applications preferred
  • Experience with inventory and asset tracking systems preferred
  • Experience with Mac, Chromebook, and iPad hardware repairs preferred
  • Experience with printer and copier configuration and troubleshooting preferred
  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy management preferred


Skills Required:

  • Ability to work well with fellow employees and provide support/training to non-technical staff
  • Ability to travel amongst district schools located in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton
  • Ability to manage tasks to required deadlines
  • Ability to self-direct and make decisions in absence of supervisor
  • Ability to maintain a positive and flexible attitude toward daily responsibilities
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation
  • Ability to support Board of Education Meetings that occur on evening and/or weekends
  • Ability to monitor machines via RMM and take appropriate action(s) on as necessary
  • Participate in the management of organizational licensing and software renewals

Salary and Benefits:  All non-certified staff that fall under the Support Professional Association "SPA" are placed on a salary schedule according to position and experience as part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The hourly range for this position is: $23.00- $26.75.
Non-Certified staff experience 13 sick days and 4 personal days of paid time off. All full-time staff have the privilege of partaking in our health and dental insurance programs (Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance), these include 90% Board paid health insurance for the employee and 100% Board paid dental insurance for the individual staff member
