What does a weekend cafe worker do?

A Weekend Cafe worker is responsible for a variety of tasks in a cafe that operates primarily on weekends. Their duties typically include preparing and serving food and beverages, taking customer orders, handling payments, cleaning tables and work areas, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for guests. They may also help with opening and closing procedures, restocking supplies, and assisting with special events or promotions. Good communication and customer service skills are essential, as is the ability to work efficiently during busy weekend hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend cafe worker?

To thrive as a Weekend Cafe Worker, you need customer service experience, basic food handling knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, espresso machines, and food safety certifications like ServSafe is typically required. Strong communication, multitasking, and teamwork skills help you deliver excellent service during busy periods. These abilities ensure efficient operations, satisfied customers, and a positive workplace environment in a fast-paced cafe setting.

What are some common challenges faced by staff working weekend shifts at a cafe, and how can they be managed?

Working weekend shifts at a cafe often means handling larger crowds and faster-paced service compared to weekdays. Staff may need to multitask efficiently, maintain a positive attitude during busy rushes, and communicate clearly with both team members and customers. Managing these challenges involves preparing ahead by restocking supplies, dividing tasks among the team, and staying adaptable to changing customer demands. Building strong teamwork and staying organized can help make weekend shifts smoother and more enjoyable.

Job description

Tatte began in 2007 in a home kitchen with a passion for baking and the belief that well-crafted food has the power to bring people together. That spirit continues to guide us today.
We are a design-forward bakery and café bringing together handcrafted food, exceptional coffee, warm hospitality, and beautiful spaces designed for gathering, connection, and everyday ritual.
At our core, we are craftspeople. Chefs, bakers, baristas, and café teams united by a shared passion for excellence. We believe even the smallest details matter, because every dish, every cup of coffee, and every interaction is an opportunity to brighten someone's day.
WHY TATTE
We're looking for people who believe hospitality matters and share our mission: To Inspire, Care for, and Nurture Life. Every day.
At Tatte, we believe craft is more than a skill. It's a way of caring. It's found in the details: a warm welcome, a thoughtfully prepared meal, a well-supported team, and an exceptional guest experience. We believe these small acts, repeated every day, have the power to make life a little richer and more meaningful.
You'll join a team that takes pride in its work, supports one another, and is committed to learning and growth. We hold ourselves to high standards while creating an environment where people can develop their talents, build meaningful careers, and make an impact.
As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities for our team. Whether you're exploring a new path or taking the next step in your career, you'll help create moments of inspiration, comfort, and connection for our guests each day.
Because while we serve exceptional food, coffee, and pastries, we hope to create something more enduring: places where people feel welcomed, cared for, and inspired to return again and again.
THE ROLE
A Café Manager supports Tatte's mission to Inspire, Care for, and Nurture Life. Every day. Café Managers are key members of the café leadership team, responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while supporting the development of team members and executing café operations to Tatte standards.
Café Managers are typically experienced supervisors who are interested in developing their leadership skills and working toward becoming an Assistant General Manager. Successful Café Managers lead by example, inspire their teams through authentic hospitality, and create an environment where both guests and team members can thrive.
