Job description

Louisiana First News is looking for an energetic, passionate journalist to join our team as a Reporter/Weekend Anchor. This is an excellent opportunity for a storyteller who thrives in the field, enjoys breaking news, and wants to make a meaningful impact on the communities they serve.
We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable developing enterprise stories, reporting live in the field, and anchoring weekend newscasts with confidence and credibility. The ideal candidate is curious, collaborative, and committed to producing journalism that informs, engages, and serves our viewers across South Louisiana.
What You'll Do
  • Report, write, shoot, and edit compelling stories for television, digital, and social media platforms.
  • Anchor weekend newscasts with professionalism, accuracy, and strong newsroom judgment.
  • Deliver clear, engaging live reports during breaking news and severe weather coverage.
  • Develop original enterprise and investigative story ideas that matter to our communities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, public officials, and local sources.
  • Produce content for broadcast, website, and social media platforms.
  • Collaborate with producers, photographers, digital teams, and newsroom leadership to deliver high-quality journalism.
  • Represent Louisiana First News with professionalism both on air and within the community.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as news coverage requires.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous reporting experience required; anchoring experience preferred.
  • Strong live reporting and storytelling skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and conversational on-air delivery.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure while maintaining accuracy.
  • Experience using newsroom editing systems, cameras, and social media platforms.
  • Experience with digital and social media platforms.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Why Louisiana First News?
At Louisiana First News, our mission is exactly what our name represents-putting Louisiana first. We believe local journalism should do more than report the news; it should strengthen the communities we serve. Our team covers stories that matter, celebrates local successes, and partners with organizations throughout our viewing area to make a lasting impact. Whether we're breaking major news, covering hurricane season, or volunteering during Nexstar's Founder's Day of Caring, we believe serving our community extends beyond the newsroom.
You'll work alongside experienced journalists in a collaborative newsroom that values mentorship, innovation, and professional growth. If you're looking for a station where your work makes a difference every day, Louisiana First News is the place for you.
Baton Rouge offers the best of Louisiana in one vibrant city. As the state's capital, it's home to a rich blend of cultures, world-class food, SEC sports, live music, festivals, arts, and history. From LSU game days to riverfront events, diverse neighborhoods, and a growing downtown, there's always a story to tell. The city serves as a cultural crossroads, bringing together traditions from every corner of Louisiana while continuing to grow as a destination for business, entertainment, and community engagement.
If you're looking to grow your career while covering stories that truly matter, we'd love to meet you.
