Qualifications and Details about the Position
Job Summary:
The HVAC Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role ensures all systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards and local building codes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ventilation units, and refrigeration equipment
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and system performance issues using testing equipment and diagnostic tools
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to maximize equipment life and efficiency
- Replace defective components such as motors, compressors, thermostats, relays, belts, filters, and coils
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and schematics
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations, EPA guidelines, and local mechanical/building codes
- Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA safety standards and California Title 24 energy regulations
- Test system functionality and calibrate controls after installation or repair
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inventory documentation
- Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and cost estimates to customers or management
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls as needed, including after-hours service when required
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- HVAC certification or technical school training preferred
- EPA Section 608 Certification required
- 2+ years of HVAC installation, maintenance, or repair experience preferred
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass background check (preferred for customer-facing roles)
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, airflow, and controls
Preferred Qualifications (California Market):
- Experience with energy-efficient HVAC systems and high-efficiency equipment
- Familiarity with heat pumps and electrification-focused systems
- Experience with smart thermostats and modern HVAC control systems
Skills & Competencies:
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic expertise
- Knowledge of HVAC tools, gauges, meters, and recovery equipment
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Time management and ability to work independently
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or varying weather conditions
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor work environments
- Exposure to heat, cold, dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazards
- May require evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call rotations
Compensation:
Pay Range: $32-$37 per hour (based on experience)
