Qualifications and Details about the Position
Tent Watch Attendant
Job Summary:
The Tent Watch Attendant is responsible for maintaining constant oversight of confined space or enclosed work areas (commonly referred to as "tents") to ensure the safety of personnel performing hot work, blasting, coating, or other high-risk activities inside. The attendant ensures all entry and exit procedures are followed, monitors for signs of unsafe conditions, and is prepared to initiate emergency response protocols if necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor assigned tents, confined spaces, or enclosed work areas during operations.

  • Maintain accurate entry/exit logs and track all personnel inside the work area.

  • Ensure that only authorized personnel enter the designated work zone.

  • Enforce PPE requirements and verify permit compliance.

  • Maintain communication with entrants and supervisors using radios or other means.

  • Visually inspect for any signs of fire, gas exposure, unsafe behavior, or other hazards.

  • Alert rescue teams and initiate emergency protocols if conditions become unsafe.

  • Report any deviations from safety protocol to supervisors immediately.

  • Ensure the tent area remains secure and that signage, barriers, and equipment are in place.

  • Complete required documentation and hand-offs at shift changes.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • 1+ year of experience in refinery, plant, or industrial environments preferred.

  • Must be able to stand and observe for long periods (8-12 hours).

  • Ability to remain focused and alert throughout the shift.

  • Basic understanding of confined space and hot work procedures.

  • TWIC card, Basic Plus, and Confined Space Attendant training may be required.

  • Ability to use two-way radios and follow emergency response instructions.
