Job description

Episcopal High School seeks a skilled and collaborative Arts Support Technician to support the Technical Theater Director in the safe and effective operation of the school’s performance spaces and audiovisual systems. This position plays a key role in supporting performing arts productions, campus events, and auxiliary programming while helping ensure a safe, positive technical theater environment for students.

This is a hands-on role that combines event support, production assistance, student supervision, and venue maintenance. We are primarily seeking someone with carpentry, drafting, and rigging experience, though occasional operation of A/V equipment and live sound setup will be required. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about the performing arts, interested in mentoring technical theater students, and prioritizes safety while keeping pace with our robust boarding school environment.

This part-time position will be scheduled approximately 10–15 hours per week throughout the full calendar year with a flexible schedule that will include some evenings and weekends during production seasons and special events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support auxiliary and rental events during the summer months (June-August)
  • Assist in providing AV support for school events including Chapel services, assemblies, guest speakers, student events, and special programs
  • Assist with the technical preparation (lighting, sound, scenic, load-in/strike) and execution of:
    • (3) Major theater productions
    • Instrumental performances
    • Dance shows
  • Support the safe operation of theater equipment, including lighting systems, sound systems, fly system, and shop tools
  • Assist in supervising and mentoring students during afternoon technical theater sessions, 4:00-6:00pm Monday-Friday during peak show season (October-April)
  • Assist with set construction and rigging
  • Help maintain and organize theater and shop spaces
  • Serve as technical coverage during the school year in coordination with the Technical Theater Director

Qualifications & Prerequisites

  • 2+ years of experience in technical theater, stagecraft, and/or live event production
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater or related field
  • Strong carpentry skills preferred
  • Working knowledge of theatrical lighting, sound systems, and stage equipment
  • Experience operating power tools and production equipment
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Strong attention to safety and a desire to uphold best scene shop practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, during peak seasons
  • Availability to provide event coverage and be The School’s primary event contact during school breaks and summer months (June-August)
  • Experience working in secondary schools is strongly preferred
