Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

ย 

The Tanker Driver delivers hazmat petroleum products to all specified locations. Drivers are involved in deliveries of all types of fuels delivered by our company. This position must adhere to all rules and regulations that are required by the D.O.T. Requires a certified medical examination report clearing this person for driving commercial vehicles. Requires excellent driving skill, customer service, accuracy on documentation and good organizational skills with a consistent ability to work in a team.

Work schedules, physical and emotional demands, and lifestyles among commercial drivers vary by the type of driving they do. While the main type of driving in our business is fairly consistent, it can change depending on traffic, weather, supply, equipment and dispatched work. There may be duties in addition to driving task for which our driver is responsible and needs to be fit.ย  Some of these responsibilities are: Coupling and uncoupling trailer(s) from the tractor, unloading and loading using hoses or loading heads weighing as much as 50 lbs if full of product. Inspection of equipment requires stooping and bending and lifting of the hood.

The above tasks demand agility, the ability to maintain a crouching position to inspect the underside of the vehicle, frequent entering and exiting of the cab, and the ability to climb ladders on the trailer(s).ย  Driver must be physically and mentally able to handle 12โ€“14-hour days and stressful city driving throughout their shift. Uniforms will be supplied and hard toed footwear is required for your safety.ย  ย 

REQUIREMENTS

ย 

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Be able to pass a DOT drug test, both at hire and as requested
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license, Class A license with Tank and Hazmat Endorsements
  • Clear driving record for 3 yrs preferred.
  • Two year of tanker driving experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient
  • to communicate effectively with customers and team members
  • At least one year Clear DOT Medical certificate
  • Ability to route deliveries on map or using GPS
  • Activities: Sitting 50%ย ย  Walking/Standing 50%
  • Lifting: Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision: As required by DOT
  • Mental Demands: Problem solves and makes decisions, consistently alert
  • Environment: Exposure to outside elements such as wind, rain, etc.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Candidate must be capable to perform all duties assigned including but not limited to:

  • Basic understanding of geographical area and local mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing
  • Awareness of all regulations required for Tank endorsed drivers.
  • Awareness of all DOT regulations
  • Having knowledge of transporting a fluid load
  • Know when to call for directional information
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

ย 

  • Arrive to work on time, consistently
  • Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.ย  Ensure team is in proper uniform as well
  • Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval
  • Attend all required training, safety courses, office and departmental meetings
  • Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
  • Delivering product to specified locations safely
  • Awareness of all regulations required for Hazmat drivers
  • Awareness of all regulations required by DOT
  • Performs safety inspections of transport equipment before, during and at shift end.
  • Records and signs off on all documentation required by DOT
  • Accounts for all products delivered accurately
  • Proficient in using FMCSA required Electronic logging program
  • Analyzes deliveries to insure safe deliveries
  • Must calculate tank capacity for delivery each and every time.
  • Perform any additional tasks requested or assigned by Tanker Dispatch.
