Bioinformatics Analyst III - Neuroimmunology
The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.
The mission for the Immunology Accelerator is to advance the fundamental understanding of human immunology through the study of immune health and diseases where excessive or impaired immune responses drive pathological processes. The Institute will employ a multi-disciplinary team approach in collaboration with academic centers of human immunology to generate novel mechanistic insights into the immune synapse in health and in diseases such as autoimmunity or oncology. The Institute will simultaneously provide a foundational data set and tools for future immunological research as well as a novel collaboration portal for the broader scientific community.
The Immunology Accelerator team is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst III to support the neuroimmune interaction program. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player who can work closely with investigators to analyze molecular omics data, implement and streamline in-house or open-source analysis pipelines for omics data, and provide solid bioinformatic support to Institute research projects.

Essential Functions
  • Analyze multi-omics data from neuroimmunology projects, including but not limited to: spatial transcriptomics, scRNA-seq, proteomics, flow cytometry, and/or imaging
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to discover new insights in neuroimmunology, either as an independent contributor or as a project leader under minimal supervision
  • Contribute to a rigorously scientific, cohesive and efficient team environment

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics or related biological degree with demonstrated computational skillsets
  • 4 years of relevant experience; experience in clinical research or technology development or related discipline

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master's degree
  • 4 - 8+ years' experience in bioinformatics research or technology development
  • Experience in clinical research on autoimmune diseases or cancers
  • Track record of implementing analysis pipelines for omics data
  • Experience in literature mining and database query
  • Fluency in R, Python/Perl, linux operation system, and shell scripting
  • Familiar with single-cell technologies and literature
  • Experience in collaboration with web-lab scientists on technology development
  • Experience in molecular biology, high-throughput technologies, and immunology
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing and version control systems such as Git
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills
  • Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative high paced environment under minimum supervision
  • The successful candidate must be self-motivated, a team player, attentive to details, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Work Environment
  • May enter laboratory environment, including potential exposure to lasers, biohazards

Physical Demands
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; lab equipment
  • Working at a computer and using a mouse for extended periods of time

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
  • This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State

  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Attendance and participation in national and international conferences may be required

Annualized Salary Range
  • $105,600 - $130,650 *
