Position Summary:

The Universal Banker is a hybrid role that combines day-to-day leadership of a banking center with junior-lender responsibilities. This position is accountable for delivering outstanding customer service, driving deposit growth, ensuring strong branch operations and controls, coaching staff, and originating/servicing consumer and small business loans within established authority limits. The Universal Banker functions with a high level of independence while partnering closely with Retail Operations and the Lending team to ensure consistent execution of the bank’s culture, policies, and risk standards. This position reports to Retail leadership, with a dotted line reporting to Lending leadership.  


Major Duties and Accountabilities:  

  • Takes part in and embraces the Legacy Culture by giving outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of banking center operations including teller and new account services, workflow coverage, scheduling, and customer issue resolution.
  • Maintains strong operational controls and adherence to security procedures at all times.
  • Maintains knowledge of daily operational processes (ATM/dispenser, vault, teller balancing) and steps in to work/balance a teller drawer when necessary.
  • Works with internal auditing staff to facilitate internal audits.
  • Partners with Facilities/Operations to maintain banking center premises, appearance, and readiness for customers and staff.
  • Works with consumer and small business loan applicants to originate loans that are profitable, policy-conforming, and within the bank’s desired market and loan types.
  • Develops proficiency in underwriting fundamentals and collateral types; collaborates with senior lenders on complex requests.
  • Services assigned loan relationships and supports portfolio management expectations, including assistance with past due management and exception tracking consistent with bank goals.
  • Actively seeks consumer and small business loan opportunities through calling efforts, referrals, community involvement, and other business development means.
  • Adheres to all bank policies and procedures, including BSA/AML, OFAC, CIP, privacy, fair lending/UDAAP, information security, and internal controls; escalates concerns appropriately.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Provides direct day-to-day leadership for banking center staff (teller/new accounts and related retail roles as assigned), including coaching, training, scheduling, and performance feedback/evaluations, consistent with bank practices.


Requirements:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive banking experience in retail banking or lending.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Knowledge of consumer and small business loan fundamentals.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related area.
  • Prior consumer lending experience and exposure to small business lending/underwriting.
  • Prior branch management or assistant branch manager experience.
