Job description

With approximately $205 billion of assets under management, Bain Capital is one of the world's leading private investment firms. We create lasting impact for our investors, teams, businesses, and the communities in which we live. Over four decades we have strategically grown our platform to focus on Private Equity, Growth & Venture, Capital Solutions, Credit & Capital Markets, and Real Assets. Today, our team includes 1,950+ employees in 24 offices on four continents.

BAIN CAPITAL SPECIAL SITUATIONS OVERVIEW

Bain Capital Special Situations has $24 billion in assets under management and has invested $19 billion in ~250 deals across a balanced geographic mix of investments in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific since its founding in 2018. We provide bespoke capital solutions to meet the diverse needs of companies, entrepreneurs, and asset owners - in all market cycles. The strategy brings together equity and credit expertise, as well as corporate and real asset expertise, to provide solutions which cannot be met by traditional providers or others funds within Bain Capital. Our dedicated, global team of approximately 145 investment and portfolio professionals contribute the local expertise and capabilities that enable these diverse investments.

Aviation is one of our key focus areas, both today and through the market cycle. Over our history, we have invested close to $5 billion in Special Situations aviation investments. Acquiring physical aircraft, including commercial, cargo, and private jets, has been a particular focus with over $2 billion invested in this sub-sector over the past few years. Going forward, we expect to build off our industry-leading track record to continue to grow our presence in aircraft hard assets, including investing dedicated capital for this investment strategy.

PORTFOLIO GROUP OVERVIEW

Bain Capital has a dedicated global Portfolio Group within the firm's Special Situations business. The Portfolio Group is responsible for fund and asset management and leads the strategy and analysis on fund construction, risk, and opportunities for the Global Special Situations business.

The Portfolio Group works side-by-side with Special Situations leadership and deal teams and provides extensive support, whenever and wherever needed on analytical, strategic, and operating issues. These capabilities have helped many Bain Capital companies develop and execute strategies to move swiftly to gain competitive advantage and achieve superior growth. We currently own ~$7 billion of aircraft assets across several platforms. Given this scale and complexity, the Portfolio Group is a highly valued and fully integrated piece of our aircraft strategy. We are currently hiring an Associate to work as part of the Portfolio Group focused on aircraft hard assets in our New York City office.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide analytical support to inform investment decisions, including new asset acquisitions, financings, sales, etc.
  • Act as a thought partner to the deal team, leveraging modeling, data, and analytics
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders around all key asset management actions
  • Work on all aspects of the portfolio, including new deals, ongoing portfolio work, and ultimately value realization
  • Focus on modeling, data analytics, industry research, and internal/external reporting, all with the goal of optimizing investment outcomes
  • Develop analytical tools and maintain systems to assist in strategy setting, returns optimization, and capital formation
  • Attend board meetings, global industry events, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong academic credentials (BS/BS in finance, economics, accounting and/or related degree preferred)
  • 2-4 years of data analytics, risk analytics, portfolio management, or strategic finance experience; prior background in aviation or aircraft leasing is a strong plus but not required
  • High proficiency in Excel; ability to build and iterate analytical tools and dashboard with experience through former roles, internships or coursework in managing datasets and running financial models / scenario analytics
  • Ability to synthesize large, ambiguous data sets into clear insights
  • High proficiency in Powerpoint with ability to effectively communicate insights from analyses to diverse stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact with outside parties and personnel across all levels of the firm
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to distill analysis into crisp recommendations

Compensation

Expected Base Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000

This is the expected base salary range for this position. Actual base salary will be determined by a wide range of factors including but not limited to role, function, level, experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
