What is a weekend automotive job?

Weekend Automotive jobs refer to positions in the automotive industry that are scheduled primarily on weekends. These roles can include mechanics, service advisors, car detailers, sales associates, and technicians who work Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate customers who are unavailable during the week. Weekend shifts are common at car dealerships, repair shops, and auto parts stores. These jobs often require flexibility, technical skills, and customer service abilities, making them ideal for students or those seeking part-time work. Working weekends can also offer higher pay rates or additional benefits in some cases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend automotive technician?

To thrive as a Weekend Automotive Technician, you need solid mechanical aptitude, diagnostic skills, and a high school diploma or automotive certification (such as ASE). Familiarity with diagnostic scanners, repair manuals, and shop management software is typically required. Strong customer service, time management, and teamwork skills help technicians stand out in fast-paced, weekend service environments. These capabilities ensure efficient, accurate vehicle repairs and positive customer experiences, which are crucial for weekend automotive operations.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend automotive technicians, and how can they prepare for them?

Weekend automotive technicians often encounter high customer volume and tight turnaround times, as many clients prefer to get their vehicles serviced during the weekend. This means you may need to balance efficiency with quality while working under time pressure. Additionally, since weekend teams are sometimes smaller, technicians may need to handle a wider range of tasks, from diagnostics to customer communication. To excel, it's helpful to be adaptable, have strong multitasking skills, and maintain open communication with colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and customer satisfaction.

You'll earn hourly pay instead of flat rate, work Mondayโ€“Friday with no weekends, and receive 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage.

We're looking for an experienced A-Level Technicianโ€”or strong B-Level Technicianโ€”ready to step into a lead/top-tech role while staying hands-on with diagnostics and repairs.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose complex drivability, electrical, and mechanical concerns
  • Read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVI)
  • Perform advanced repairs, including engine and transmission swaps as needed
  • Help less-experienced technicians with difficult diagnostics
  • Provide occasional Service Advisor backup when needed

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of professional automotive repair experience required
  • A-Level experience preferred; strong B-Level Technicians considered
  • Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to independently solve difficult vehicle concerns
  • ASE Certifications preferred but not required
  • Lead-tech or mentoring experience is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Up to $39/hour โ€” hourly, not flat rate
  • $70,000โ€“$95,000 annual earning potential
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • SIMPLE IRA with approximately 3% employer match
  • Paid Time Off / sick time
  • Six paid holidays
  • Uniforms provided
  • ASE reimbursement
  • In-house technical training
  • Relocation assistance may be considered

Why This Role

  • Mondayโ€“Friday with no weekends
  • Hourly pay without flat-rate pressure
  • Lead/top technician opportunity
  • Challenging diagnostic and electrical work
  • Primarily Asian and Domestic vehicles
  • Team environment where technicians help each other
  • Opportunity to mentor less-experienced technicians

If you're ready to stay hands-on while becoming the technician others turn to for the tough problems, we'd like to hear from you.
