Position Summary:
The Audio-Visual Commissioning Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and optimal performance of audio-visual systems we design and install. This role requires individuals to serve as a technical and advisory resource responsible for commissioning complex AV systems.
This position requires individuals to exercise independent judgment to carry out services necessary for all phases of the AV lifecycle, including site surveys, client programming meetings, system design, programming, commissioning and troubleshooting. The role evaluates design intent, identifies risks or gaps, and recommends solutions that impact system performance, project outcomes, and client operations.
Additionally, this position requires effective collaboration with our design and installation teams, as well as direct consultative client engagement during the final stages of the project life cycle, ensuring that the audio-visual systems we install meet and exceed our clients' expectations.
What You Will Do
  • Commissioning: Oversee, validate, and perform configuration, loading and testing of complex AV programming to ensure alignment with design intent and client requirements. Plan, lead, and oversee the commissioning strategy for complex AV systems in large enterprises, manufacturing, sports, gaming, healthcare and other facilities. Create, evaluate, and modify DSP files for typical systems with an emphasis on AEC optimization for videoconferencing and coordinating control objects with programmer.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and analyze scope of work, signal flow drawings, and other project documentation, as well as conduct thorough testing to ensure that all components of the AV systems perform as intended. Exercise independent judgement to recommend alternative technical approaches that may impact system functionality, cost, or schedule.
  • Troubleshooting: Provide technical support and assistance during the installation and post-installation phases, addressing any issues or inquiries promptly. Diagnose and resolve technical and complex system issues promptly to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability. Escalate, prioritize, and resolve issues based on operational impact and client needs, with a keen focus on customer satisfaction.
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation of system configurations and technical details for clients and internal teams. Contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning standards, practices, and guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with operations team members, design engineers, programmers, and installation teams to ensure a coordinated, seamless transition from design to installation and commissioning. Serve as a technical advisor influencing project decisions by providing subject-matter expertise related to system performance and operation.
  • Client Interaction: Consult with clients to explain system functionality, gather feedback, address concerns, advise on solutions, and provide excellent customer service throughout the commissioning process.
  • Training: Provide training to end-users on the operation and maintenance of the AV systems.
  • Stay Current: Must stay up to date with the latest AV technologies and industry trends to provide innovative solutions, system optimization, and enhance the quality of our services
  • In-person: Required to be onsite with the ability to regularly visit jobsites to support AV commissioning, punch walks, client meetings, and oversee progress
  • Performs other engineering duties as requested.

What You Will Need to be Successful
  • Bachelor's degree in construction or engineering is preferred, and 3-5 years of professional experience with at least three years of AV design/integration experience, or relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in commissioning and troubleshooting audio-visual systems, including AV control systems, digital signal processors, displays, projectors, direct view LED walls, and audio equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate technical issues and recommend solutions.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for AV systems.
  • Perform configuration, loading, testing, and debugging control systems with remote programmer.
  • Familiarity with AV protocols such as HDMI, HDBaseT, AVoIP, Dante, AES67, etc.
  • Familiarity with control protocols such as RS2323/RS485, TCP, UDP, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of network deployment including multicast management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of AV solutions and products.
  • Strong understanding of complex large-scale commercial AV systems required.
  • Multiple OEM experience required. Certification in design and/or programming of Q-Sys, Crestron, Biamp, Extron and AMX platforms desired.
  • Strong working knowledge of video teleconferencing platforms such as Teams, Zoom, Webex, Google, etc.
  • Working knowledge in telecommunications, cable/conduit routing, equipment rack layouts, wall and ceiling reinforcement, floor plans, power/cooling required.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Must have excellent written, presentation, verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Field experience with AV integration, commissioning and troubleshooting
  • System programming experience, as well as knowledge of computer programming languages is desired.
  • Must be organized and self-motivated.
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision, exercising discretion in technical decision-making.
  • Maintain and grow certifications and technical knowledge.
    • AVIXA CTS certification required.
    • AVICA CTS-D and/or CTS-I preferred.
    • Q-Sys Level 2 Required
    • DSP certification from one or more of the following manufacturers: Biamp, QSC, BSS, Symetrix Required
    • Dante Level 1, 2, and 3 Preferred
    • Control certification from one or more of the following manufacturers: QSC, Extron, Crestron, AMX Preferred
    • Shure Integrated Systems Certifications Preferred
