Job description

Carpenter's Corner is hiring an Assistant Retail Manager to support the mission of Carpenter's Place through our new store, Carpenter's Corner Thrift and More.

This position works under the direction of the Retail Manager to carry out all retail operations in the store, including, but not limited to, creating a Christ-centered environment, register operations, customer service, store appearance and displays, and employee interactions, as outlined in the essential functions of the job and in compliance with company policies, procedures and mission statement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  1. Assists the Retail Manager daily by being an example of "revealing Christ" to all staff, donors, and customers.
  2. Assists the Retail Manager in the retail operations of the store, including the handling of cash and credit card payments, non-cash purchases, voids and refunds, in order to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
  3. Completes with accuracy, Daily Reconciliation Sales Reports, bank deposits, Daily Sales charts, Category Sales chart and Donations charts, and properly save and store all paperwork to ensure truthful reporting and recording of daily sales and donations.
  4. Assists the Retail Manager in making daily bank deposits and acquire change for the register to ensure the accuracy and security of all transactions.
  5. Works with Retail Manager to establish and maintain customer service standards in order to ensure compliance with the company mission statement and to provide a pleasant shopping experience for each customer.
  6. Works with the Retail Manager to train new employees in order to ensure the employees have all essential training needed to be successful in their position.
  7. Work with store staff in maintaining the physical appearance of the store, including, but not limited to: ordering and maintaining needed janitorial and restroom supplies, removing safety hazards, picking up store merchandise and restoring to proper place, cleaning parking lot, sidewalks, windows and doors, store floors, restrooms and other public areas, to ensure the safety and health of customers and employees.
  8. Help identify areas on the retail floor that need to be addressed related to pulls, merchandising, recovery, etc.
  9. Assists store staff in stocking store shelves and clothing racks, in order to provide customers with maximum shopping opportunities.
  10. Assists store staff in setting up or changing store displays in order to provide a pleasant shopping environment and to entice customers to shop new areas or items within the store.
  11. Leads the staff to successfully neutralize negative customer interactions.
  12. Communicates all events related to customer service issues or problems, register mistakes, employee issues or accidents, and general store operations to the manager, in order to ensure all issues are handled properly and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  13. Supervises the store operations and staff, in order to ensure compliance with company mission statement and company.
  14. Attends as required, or requested, all training events provided by the company and all store meetings as scheduled by the manager in order to keep current on any policy changes, new procedures, and other information essential to performing the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel (spreadsheets).
  2. Email communications (including attachments).
  3. Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine.
  4. Ability to operate general office machines, copier, fax, printers, scanners.
  5. Ability to read (in English), comprehend, analyze and interpret correspondence and memos.
  6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as policy/procedure manuals.
  7. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  8. Ability to read and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  9. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED required.

Two to three years' experience in retail management required.

Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds. There is light to moderate physical activity on a daily basis, with occasional strenuous activity on the retail floor. Must be able to use hands to type, handle documents and money, stock shelves and clean. Store is well-lit, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor retail or office setting with adequate ventilation.

VISION REQUIREMENTS

  3. Color Vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  4. Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point).

  6. Ability to adjust focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
