Job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | Mechanical Skid Assembler / Assembly Technician | Industrial Equipment Manufacturing | Kansas City Metro Area (Lenexa, KS)

A specialty equipment manufacturer in the Kansas City metro is adding mechanical assemblers to its fabrication shop. You will build custom, modular process systems from the ground up — reading prints, mounting components, routing pipe, and testing finished units before they ship. Work is hands-on and indoor, on a stable day shift, with the tools and PPE provided. This is a direct-hire seat on a team that keeps the same people for years; a strong, reliable builder who checks their own work will do well here and stick around.

  • Anticipated $26–$27/hr starting, based on experience
  • Full suite of benefits: Health/Dental/Vision, PTO
  • Schedule: Day shift, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday–Friday, year-round
  • Overtime (a few times/year, weekdays only — no Saturdays)
  • Company supplies tools and PPE; steel-toe boots/safety glasses replaced on a set cycle

Overview

  • Build complete modular skid systems from engineering prints, ready to ship
  • Read and work from P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and isometric schematics
  • Mount pumps, valves, sensors, and components to skid bases — drilling, tapping, bolting, fastening
  • Measure, cut, thread, and secure stainless steel and PVC pipe spools onto the framework
  • Assemble threaded stainless connections and glued PVC using pipe tape and thread sealant
  • Run pressure tests and functional checks; find and correct leaks before sign-off
  • Inspect finished units against spec for alignment and tolerance
  • Operate a forklift to position heavy components and move completed skids to test
  • Optional, not required: basic conduit, wire pull, control-box wiring from schematics
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean and orderly

Preferred Skills / Experiences

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical certs or associate degree in fluid power, industrial tech, or related field — valued, not required
  • STRONGLY PREFERRED: Hands-on mechanical assembly experience in a fab shop or manufacturing setting
  • STRONGLY PREFERRED: Pipe work experience: stainless steel threading and/or PVC
  • Background in plumbing, basic hydraulics, or electrical wiring — a plus
  • Comfortable reading blueprints and mechanical drawings
  • Forklift experience
  • Able to stand for full shifts and lift up to ~50 lbs

KEYWORDS: mechanical assembler, skid assembler, skid builder, assembly technician, fabrication, fabricator, modular systems, process systems, pipe fitting, stainless steel pipe, PVC pipe, pipe spools, blueprint reading, P&ID, isometric drawings, mechanical drawings, pumps, valves, threading, thread sealant, pressure testing, leak testing, forklift, mechanical aptitude, hand tools, power tools, manufacturing, industrial equipment, hydraulics, conduit, control box wiring, quality inspection
