Job description

The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - Infectious Disease leads the development, implementation, and expansion of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives across inpatient and ambulatory settings at Cleveland Clinic. In this role, caregivers collaborate closely with infectious diseases physicians, microbiologists, infection prevention teams, and pharmacy leadership to optimize antimicrobial use and improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities include providing infectious diseases consult support, developing and maintaining evidence-based guidelines, protocols, and care pathways, and participating in key committees such as the Antimicrobial Specialty Panel of the P&T Committee and the Health System Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee. This caregiver also supports the education of pharmacy residents and students, contributes to infectious diseases research, and advances system-wide stewardship initiatives. This is a part-time opportunity with potential for expansion to full-time as the infectious diseases clinical service grows across Main Campus and the enterprise.

A caregiver in this position will work part-time Monday - Friday, from 7:30am-4pm. A caregiver will float every 8th weekend and work one holiday per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Coordinate and provide pharmaceutical care for patients.
  • Participate in patient care rounds.
  • Perform pharmacotherapeutic monitoring and provision of pharmaceutical care for patients.
  • Provide general and patient-specific drug information.
  • Educate clinical pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students, post-graduate trainees, allied health professionals,nursesand physicians in pharmacotherapy.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • If hired for a specialty area where specialty residency training is available, then specialty residency isrequired
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) OR eligible for reciprocation in the current state within90 daysofhire
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or fellowship OR completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY-1) and two years of experience as a clinical specialist or an equivalent role providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmaceutical monitoring OR four years of experience as a clinical specialist or an equivalent role providing pharmaceutical care and performing pharmacotherapeutic monitoring
  • For individualsrequiredto administer immunizations: current Basic Life Support (BLS)Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Crossand completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within90 daysof hire
  • For individualsrequiredto respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events: current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Crossor certification obtained within 1 year of hire

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • BoardCertification
  • Prior pharmacy experience in infectious diseases
  • Board Certification in Infectious Diseases Pharmacy (BCIDP) preferred or willingness to obtain within an established timeframe

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must have ability toclearly communicate verbally by phone or in person

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $101,900.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $155,390.00

A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
