The Anesthesia Technician, under the direction of the Director/Manager/ Charge Nurse and Anesthesia Care team is responsible for providing a clean, safe, and well-supplied environment for the practice of anesthesia and understands the needs of the patient undergoing anesthesia.
Responsibilities
  1. Attends staff meetings and participates in all department in-service training to cover new procedures, equipment, or policies

  1. Assist the anesthesia professional with emergent life-saving measures such as Code Blue, surgical fires, Malignant Hyperthermia, emergence delirium, rapid sequence intubation, LAST protocol, and massive transfusion protocol. and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)

  1. Supports interdisciplinary team members in OR with duties within scope of practice. Perfusion - circuits, fluid, heater cooler maintenance, nursing/ surgical technologist- position, prep, supplies

  1. Provide direct patient care alongside anesthesia provider in surgical setting by assisting with intubation, airway management, neuraxial and regional anesthesia blocks, catheters, central/ arterial line placement

  1. Using Aseptic Technique prepares and sets up supplies for efficient clinical use and assists with insertion of invasive pressure monitors (i.e. arterial lines, central lines, Swan Ganz) by preparing sterile trays and equipment.

  1. Handle and deliver critical labs and life sustaining treatment directly between the anesthesia provider to the interdisciplinary colleagues (laboratory, blood bank, pharmacy, supply chain)

  1. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex anesthesia equipment and monitoring devices

  1. Provide direct technical support to the anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist with adjunct equipment such as difficult airway cart, pressure transducers, fiberoptic scope, rapid transfuser, defibrillator, glide scope, TEE and various ultrasounds.

  1. Manage, organize, order, and maintain anesthesia environment, supplies, and medications in an acute care setting. Areas of responsibility include Operating Rooms, Open Heart Operating Rooms, Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization Labs, Endoscopy, Emergency Room, Ambulatory Surgery Unit, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, and patient bedside with anesthesia in intensive care and medical surgical units.

  1. Demonstrates proper handling and cleaning and/or sterilization of equipment per department/hospital procedures.

  1. Independently provide high level disinfection (HLD) cleaning of anesthesia equipment such as TEE and Ultrasound probes

  1. Facilitates OR room turnover by cleaning and setting up anesthesia workstation between patients and gathering /returning equipment and supplies used by the anesthesia personnel.

  1. Assists with department goals for room turnover and other quality metrics

  1. Adheres to quality control standards, policy, and contributes to quality improvement initiatives

  1. Orients and precepts employees and/or students new to the department/role

  1. Committed to ongoing professional development and advancement in surgical care

  1. Completes other duties as requested/assigned.

Qualifications
Education
Post High School Special Training - Required
Bachelors or Associates of Health Sciences (Anesthesia Technology, Medical Assisting, etc.)- Preferred
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Florida Paramedic License or
  • LPN license or
  • Certified Anesthesia Technician(Cer.A.T) or
  • Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer. A.T.T.) from the American Society of technologists and technicians Preferred or
  • Florida Emergency Medical Assistant (EMT) or
  • Certified Medical Assistant, CMA) or
  • Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA)with specialty anesthesia training (can be on the job)- required
  • BLS- required
  • ACLS -preferred

Special Skills/Qualifications/Additional Training/Experience Required
  • Technical support and clinical application training and ability for advanced anesthesia machines and adjunct equipment with company technician and hospital biomed department.

  • Required to assist with routine on-call support during off hours to ensure safe patient care (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
