Position Overview
Primary Function:
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with overseeing medical care regarding all varsity student-athletes participating in 24 varsity sports.
This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided, and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.
Position Appointment Details:
  • Career Band: AT2
  • Full-Time, 9.5-month yearly schedule
  • Significant travel is required

Position Description
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and treat athletic injuries, rehabilitate athletes, and recommend injury prevention strategies.
  • Evaluate athletic injuries; administer proper first aid and emergency care.
  • Direct treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Make appropriate physician referrals for further diagnosis and treatment or appropriate follow-up care.
  • Maintain and organize athletic training rooms.
  • Maintain and organize the Fowler Center Athletic Training Room and the Kyle Rote Soccer / Lacrosse Facility Athletic Training Room.
  • Maintain injury/medical files, including correspondence with physicians.
  • Communicate with coaches, administrators, physicians, and parents regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with varsity sports coverage, including home and away contests.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in ensuring all varsity sport practices are staffed either on-site or in the Athletic Training Room by a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
  • Ensure all varsity sports practices and home competitions are appropriately staffed by a qualified athletic trainer.

Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Master's degree preferred
Experience:
3 years of experience in an athletic training setting
Licenses/Certification:
  • National Certification (NATABOC)
  • TN State Licensure
  • Valid Driver's License F Endorsement
