Job description

In Kodiak, Petro Star Inc. operates as North Pacific Fuel. Backed by a combined experience of over 100 years, our staff is committed to providing you with the best service available.
We distribute marine fuel to commercial fishing vessels and pleasure boats, heating fuel and propane to residential and commercial customers, as well as to various government agencies. We also carry a full line of Chevron lubricants, filters, degreasers, and cleaners in packaged stock inventory. And we're available on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
THIS IS NOT A SLOPE JOB. THIS POSITION REQUIRES RELOCATION TO KODIA, ALASKA.
BREIF JOB SUMMARY
Deliver fuel to home heating oil and propane accounts, retail accounts, commercial accounts and marine fuel by truck. Perform light maintenance on equipment as needed. This position will require work availability after hours on weekdays and/or on weekends in rotation with other Terminal personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
  • Deliver fuel and /or propane to residential, commercial, and marine accounts by truck.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting petroleum products.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicle documentation is current.
  • Cross functional training of various duties in the terminal and on the dock to provide assistance while on duty and personnel coverage as needed.
  • Perform pre and post trip DOT inspections on vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are all in good working order.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions and ensure vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Drive trucks to transport and deliver products or other materials safely.
  • Properly secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders or covers.
  • Read bills of lading and work orders to determine assignment details.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations or damage to the vehicles.
  • Occasionally assist customers with various needs such as fuel, lube, filters and misc. products.
  • Participate in all required training and drills.
  • Participate in emergency oil spill response situations.
  • Occasionally fill propane bottles and verify that the tank is safe to fill using proper safety precautions.
  • Must learn and become proficient with computers and the auto delivery system.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • HAZWOPER Certifications: Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL License with X endorsement and a CDL Medical Card; Must apply for a TWIC® card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) within 30 days from date of hire at your own personal expense.
  • It is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002(MTSA) that you maintain a valid TWIC card in order to work at this facility. You must keep your TWIC card current and valid as a condition of employment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous material, cleanup of oil spills, and petroleum product specifications required.
  • Previous operating work experience in Alaska including commercial vehicle operation, forklift operation, and the use of small hand tools preferred.
