Job description

ITnova is seeking an experienced Airport Security Specialist to support airport security operations, security programs, systems, processes, and compliance requirements. The specialist will assess existing security capabilities, identify operational gaps and improvement opportunities, and support the development and implementation of practical solutions that enhance the safety and security of airport facilities, passengers, employees, and operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with Airport Authority leadership, airport security, public safety, operations, law enforcement, technology, facilities, airlines, tenants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to evaluate security requirements and support continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and document existing airport security programs, processes, systems, facilities, and operational capabilities.
  • Evaluate security requirements and identify gaps, risks, vulnerabilities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the development and implementation of airport security strategies, procedures, standards, and improvement plans.
  • Evaluate security systems and technologies, including access control, video surveillance, alarm systems, credentialing, perimeter security, and security communications.
  • Conduct security assessments, site surveys, operational reviews, and stakeholder interviews to identify security and operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain security assessments, reports, procedures, requirements, plans, diagrams, and other technical documentation.
  • Coordinate with airport security, operations, public safety, law enforcement, IT, facilities, airlines, tenants, vendors, and contractors on security initiatives.
  • Support the planning, implementation, testing, and operational transition of new or upgraded airport security capabilities.
  • Assist with security-related projects, including requirements development, procurement support, system integration, testing, implementation, and acceptance.
  • Monitor changes in FAA, TSA, DHS, and other applicable airport security requirements and support implementation of required changes.
  • Support emergency preparedness, contingency planning, exercises, and operational continuity activities related to airport security.
  • Provide recommendations to improve security effectiveness, operational efficiency, resiliency, and regulatory compliance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Aviation Management, Public Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in airport security, aviation security, transportation security, public safety, emergency management, or related field.
  • Experience evaluating security operations, processes, systems, and infrastructure in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of airport security operations, access control, credentialing, surveillance, alarm systems, perimeter security, and security procedures.
  • Experience conducting assessments, site surveys, operational reviews, or security gap analyses.
  • Strong understanding of security documentation, requirements development, procedures, and compliance activities.
  • Experience working with stakeholders, including airport operations, security personnel, law enforcement, technology teams, vendors, and contractors.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required airport security credentials and background clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience working for an airport, Airports Authority, airline, TSA, FAA, DHS, transportation agency, or aviation services organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TSA security requirements and airport security regulations.
  • Experience with Airport Security Master Plans (ASMP) or similar airport security planning initiatives.
  • Experience with Airport Operations Areas (AOA), Security Identification Display Areas (SIDA), sterile areas, access control points, and restricted areas.
  • Previous experience supporting airport capital projects, modernization programs, or security technology deployments.
  • Experience developing security assessments, security plans, standard operating procedures, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Homeland Protection Professional (CHPA), or related certification.

**This position is Hybrid, must be in the Washington DC/Baltimore MD area.
