What is the difference between Weekend Aerospace Engineer vs Part-Time Aerospace Technician?

AspectWeekend Aerospace EngineerPart-Time Aerospace Technician
CredentialsBachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or related field; professional certificationsTechnical diploma or associate degree; relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentDesign labs, testing facilities, project sitesMaintenance hangars, repair shops, testing areas
Employer & Industry UsageEngineering firms, aerospace companies, research institutionsManufacturers, maintenance providers, aerospace service companies

Weekend Aerospace Engineers focus on designing and testing aerospace systems during weekends, often requiring advanced engineering credentials. Part-Time Aerospace Technicians perform maintenance and repairs, typically with technical diplomas. Both roles serve the aerospace industry but differ in responsibilities and qualifications.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior aerospace engineers with extensive experience, advanced degrees, and specialized skills in areas like propulsion or avionics can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially in leadership roles or at major aerospace companies. High compensation often includes bonuses, stock options, and other incentives, typically requiring advanced certifications and a strong track record of project management and technical expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Aerospace Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Aerospace Engineer, you need a solid background in aerospace engineering principles, problem-solving abilities, and typically a bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, simulation tools, and industry-specific certifications such as EIT or PE is often required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating on projects and troubleshooting complex systems. These competencies ensure high safety standards, efficient project execution, and reliable innovation in aerospace environments, even during weekend shifts.

Can I make 200k as an aerospace engineer?

Experienced aerospace engineers with advanced skills, certifications, and working in high-paying industries or locations can earn salaries around or above $200,000 annually. However, entry-level positions typically offer lower salaries, and compensation varies based on experience, employer, and geographic region. Achieving this level often requires specialized expertise and years of experience.

What are some typical projects or tasks that a Weekend Aerospace Engineer might handle, and how do these differ from weekday engineering roles?

Weekend Aerospace Engineers often focus on tasks that require minimal disruption to ongoing operations, such as conducting maintenance checks, running system diagnostics, or supporting testing activities that are scheduled outside of regular hours. They may also be involved in implementing upgrades or troubleshooting urgent technical issues that arise over the weekend. Unlike weekday roles, weekend engineers typically work more independently or with a smaller team, emphasizing problem-solving and quick decision-making. Collaboration still occurs, often through handoff reports or remote communications with weekday teams to ensure continuity and safety.

What are Weekend Aerospace Engineers?

Weekend Aerospace Engineers are professionals who work in the aerospace industry, typically on a part-time basis during weekends. They may be involved in designing, testing, or maintaining aircraft and spacecraft systems, often supporting ongoing projects or providing specialized expertise outside regular business hours. This role is ideal for individuals seeking flexibility, additional income, or experience in the aerospace field while balancing other commitments. Weekend Aerospace Engineers often collaborate with full-time teams to ensure project continuity and meet critical deadlines.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior aerospace engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills in design and analysis, and leadership roles can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially in high-paying industries like defense or commercial aerospace. Achieving this level often requires advanced degrees, specialized certifications, and working in senior or executive positions.

Do aerospace engineers work on weekends?

Aerospace engineers typically work during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, but may occasionally work on weekends or outside standard hours to meet project deadlines or address urgent issues. Overtime and flexible schedules are common in the industry, especially during critical phases of development or testing.

Job description

Aerospace Engineer
Aerospace Engineer I
NASA Glenn Research Center
Brook Park, Ohio
HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.
HX5 is currently seeking an Aerospace Engineer to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. The selected candidate will support the HLS Site Availability Lead and the lunar landing site availability analysis team. This effort is monitored by the System Architectures and Analytical Studies Branch at NASA GRC, which provides research and engineering to define and analyze communications system architectures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support NASA's mission of landing Boots on the Moon by 2028, which also supports NASA's goal of having two lunar landings in 2028. These ambitious goals require a human Landing System (HLS), which is being developed by competing HLS providers for each mission. The selected candidate will join an established team that is conducting independent analyses of the data, results, and recommendations delivered by the HLS providers.
These insight efforts will involve complex data analysis and synthesis of information that includes geological and environmental properties, spacecraft capabilities, mission design factors, launch window opportunities, and communication availability. Potential landing sites are first assessed to confirm that the spacecraft can land safely. Then, the site availability analysis determines the optimal set of landing sites for solar illumination, Earth to Moon communication coverage, lunar surface communication coverage, and similar requirements. Primarily, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
โ€ข Provide incremental and final results, documentation, and software scripts to support the concurrent analysis cycles needed by NASA's return to the Moon
โ€ข Review plans for follow-on cycles and make recommendations for improving the lunar site selection process
โ€ข Attend and participate in weekly meetings to provide status and support collaboration between the multi-NASA center HLS site availability team
This technical effort will identify and select potential lunar landing sites using the Glenn Research Center Communication Analysis Suite (GCAS) software package and information from previous analysis cycles. GCAS was developed at GRC to simulate potential orbits of spacecraft and to optimize characteristics of a mission in a visual representation. In addition, analysis and synthesis of data related to mission constraints, figures of merit, and the logistics of orbital trajectories will be required to support the site selections.
Required Skills:
  • Proficient in Matlab software and coding
  • Familiarity or experience with analysis for space related applications
  • Familiarity or experience with space flight mechanics and orbital dynamics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills:
  • Cross-discipline knowledge that includes:
    • Launch window analysis and logistics
    • Orbital trajectory analysis
    • Line of sight communication
  • Familiarity or experience with GCAS, STK, SOAP or similar software package
  • Familiarity or experience with C++
  • Experience working on NASA space related projects

Education/Experience:
Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering or other STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with 0 to 2 years of experience

Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

HX5 offers a competitive salary and benefits package to include:
  • Relocation Assistance
  • Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) plan with Company Match
  • Paid Holidays
  • Paid Time Off
  • Parental Leave
  • Life Insurance
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Pet Insurance
