Job description

Position Summary

The Weekend Activities Aide supports the Life Enrichment program by assisting with engaging, safe, and meaningful activities for residents in both Assisted Living and Memory Care. This position focuses on creating a warm, social environment and encouraging participation in group and one-on-one activities that promote connection, purpose, and well-being. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, energetic, and comfortable supporting residents with cognitive and physical needs.

Key ResponsibilitiesResident Engagement & Program Support
  • Assist with preparing, setting up, and leading weekend activity programs including games, music, crafts, exercise, reminiscence, and social events.

  • Encourage resident involvement by offering one-on-one invitations and gentle redirection, especially for residents in Memory Care.

  • Provide individualized engagement for residents who may not attend group activities (conversation, sensory activities, reading, puzzles, etc.).

  • Support residents during activities to ensure safety, inclusion, and enjoyment.

Memory Care Support
  • Assist with dementia-friendly programming using calm communication, validation techniques, and structured routines.

  • Help create a supportive environment by providing reassurance, redirection, and positive engagement.

  • Understand and respect each resident's cognitive level and preferences.

Assisted Living Support
  • Facilitate social connection and meaningful leisure opportunities that promote independence and community involvement.

  • Assist residents to and from activities and encourage attendance.

Event & Environment Support
  • Assist with special weekend events, holidays, family activities, parties, and community gatherings.

  • Help maintain a clean, organized activities area including supplies, equipment, and shared spaces.

  • Set up and break down rooms, tables, chairs, and program materials before and after events.

Communication & Documentation
  • Communicate with the Life Enrichment Director regarding resident participation, engagement levels, and any concerns.

  • Notify nursing or leadership of changes in resident condition or safety concerns during programs.

  • Assist in basic documentation as requested (attendance sheets, program notes, etc.).

Teamwork & Resident Care Support
  • Work collaboratively with caregivers, nursing, dining, and leadership to support resident quality of life.

  • Offer respectful assistance with resident needs while in activities (escorting, toileting reminders, hydration, etc.), within training and facility policy.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with seniors preferred; experience with dementia care strongly preferred.

  • Must demonstrate compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to lead small groups and engage residents with varying levels of physical and cognitive ability.

  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work weekends consistently.

  • Must be able to maintain resident confidentiality and follow community policies and procedures.

This role works closely with older adults in Assisted Living and Memory Care. Candidates should feel comfortable in an environment where residents may have mobility limitations and cognitive impairment, and be able to respond with patience and professionalism.
