About the role

The Intermediate Accountant is responsible for performing accounting activities supporting the Company's life insurance and annuity operations. This role prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, analyzes financial activity, supports the financial close processes, and assists in the preparation of the quarterly/annual financial statements.


The Intermediate Accountant works independently on assigned responsibilities while partnering with other business areas to ensure the accurate recording of financial results.


What you'll do

  • Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP accounting policies.

  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items to ensure timely resolution.

  • Explain routine fluctuations in balance sheet and income statement accounts.

  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly/ annual financial statements.

  • Prepare supporting schedules used in internal/external financial reporting.

  • Collaborate with various departments to resolve accounting questions and obtain supporting information.

  • Assist with audit requests by preparing documentation and responding to audit inquiries.

  • Participate in system implementations, process improvements, and automation initiatives designed to improve accounting efficiency and reporting quality.

  • Assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.

  • Responsible for adherence to the company's framework of internal controls.


Qualifications
Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent education/experience

  • Approximately 2-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles.

  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and accounting systems.

  • Knowledge of STAT accounting principles preferred

  • Demonstrates ownership of assigned accounting processes and consistently delivers accurate, timely work \\\

  • Understands the purpose and business drivers behind assigned accounting activities and seeks to understand the \"why,\" not just the process

  • Identifies and resolves routine accounting issues independently while recognizing when to seek guidance on more complex matt

  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and proactively expands technical and business knowledge

  • Maintains strong attention to detail while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
