Job Requirements
The Clinical Nurse, UMMS Staffing (USC) provides safe, evidence-based, patient- and family-centered nursing care across UMMS inpatient and approved procedural, surgical, and ambulatory care settings. As a member of the internal resource workforce, the USC RN is employed by the Staffing Center and deployed to clinical units based on organizational need and validated unit-specific competencies. The USC RN practices within the scope of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act, professional nursing standards, and organizational policies. Care is delivered in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, with flexibility and adaptability across assigned clinical environments.
Primary Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect nursing care appropriate to the patient population and acuity of the assigned unit.
• Independently performs comprehensive patient assessments, implements nursing and medical interventions, evaluates patient responses, and documents care in the electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with patients, families, charge nurses, nurse managers, and interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity, safety, and quality of care.
• Safely administers medications and utilizes clinical equipment and technology in accordance with policy and validated competency.
• Delegates and supervises nursing care activities consistent with the Nurse Practice Act, organizational policy, and individual competency levels.
• Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, and effective communication when transitioning between units and clinical settings.
• Adheres to evidence-based practice, regulatory standards, and organizational policies to promote patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Identifies, reports, and takes appropriate action related to patient safety risks, adverse events, and near misses.
• Supports unit operations and staffing needs, including performing charge or other unit-based roles as appropriate and within validated competencies.
• Participates in quality improvement, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives as applicable.
• Maintains current RN licensure, required certifications, and validated competencies necessary for assigned clinical settings.
• Completes all required organizational, regulatory, and annual education.
• Participates in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competence.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Cath Lab Specifics:
Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology (EP), structural heart, and interventional radiology procedures.
• Assess, monitor, and care for adult and geriatric patients before, during, and after invasive cardiovascular procedures.
• Assist physicians during complex procedures including PCI, cardiac stent placement, left and right heart catheterizations, TAVR, MitraClip, Watchman, PFO closure, and structural heart interventions.
• Support advanced cardiac procedures involving IABP, Impella, Rotablator, Shockwave, pulmonary artery catheterization, and ventricular assist device placement.
• Participate in electrophysiology procedures including cardiac ablations, cardioversions, cardiac mapping, pacemaker insertions, AICD implantation, and conduction studies.
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation, antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, vasopressors, thrombolytics, and emergency medications in accordance with established protocols.
• Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, ECGs, and patient responses throughout procedures and recovery.
• Perform sheath removal, vascular closure management, ACT monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and post-procedure recovery care.
• Utilize specialized equipment and technology including GE Innova IGS, GE MacLab, Philips systems, IVUS, FFR, and Epic EMR.
• Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
• Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Epic electronic medical records.
• Participate in required on-call rotation, including weekday and weekend call coverage.
• Maintain current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum two (2) years of Cath Lab or related cardiovascular procedural nursing experience required
Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required

• Current and active unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Maryland or eligibility through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Additional certifications and experience requirements (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS) are required based on unit-specific competencies
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care nursing experience within the past 12 months.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school.

Education & Experience - Preferred

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Compensation
Flat Rate $55/hr
Long term assignments available after start at a higher rate of pay
