At Core & Main, we're looking for a skilled and motivated Fusion Tech III who takes pride in delivering high-quality HDPE piping solutions while providing exceptional service to our customers. In this hands-on role, you'll work with industry-leading equipment, perform specialized fusion operations in the field, respond to critical repair needs, and play a key role in ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of safety and quality. Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
  • Determines appropriate fusion method and equipment necessary to install pipe. Provides and installs custom HDPE piping systems and repair systems.
  • Performs Butt, Sidewall, Socket, Electro fusion and extrusion structure welds. Inspects and maintains fusion equipment.
  • Communicates with customers to assess needs.
  • Identifies installation and repair needs.
  • Determines if final product meets quality control standards.
  • Transports equipment to job site. Operates field equipment and forklift.
  • Responsible for 24-hour on-call repair emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an HDPE Fusion Technician, including the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of polyethylene pipe fusion equipment.
  • Generally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in a related area of responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of HDPE fusion processes, equipment setup, quality standards, and safe operating practices.
  • Basic to intermediate mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on fusion equipment and related components.
  • Basic to intermediate electrical aptitude, including the ability to diagnose common electrical issues associated with fusion equipment, wiring, controls, and accessories.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License (CDL) with applicable DOT endorsements, or the ability to obtain and maintain the required CDL and endorsements within a specified period following hire.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials in accordance with company safety standards.
  • McElroy equipment training and/or certification.
  • Current HDPE fusion certifications through recognized industry organizations or manufacturers.
  • Experience in underground utility, pipeline, natural gas, water, wastewater, telecommunications, mining, or construction-related industries.
  • Additional industry-specific safety, equipment, or operator certifications.

Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must pass pre-employment assessment(s)
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including HDPE fusion training, OSHA safety training, and MSHA Part 48 training, as required by company policy and job assignments.
  • Ability to meet all DOT medical certification requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight on a consistent basis as required by business needs. This is required to support field operations, attend manufacturer training programs, and fulfill other job-related responsibilities.

Environmental Job Requirements
  • Typically in an environment with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noises, and fumes, which may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness.
  • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, and maneuvering material or equipment, some of which may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.
