Do you enjoy working with children and helping them express their creativity?
Imagine Arts Academy of St. Louis is hiring enthusiastic, dependable instructors to lead engaging, hands-on art classes at elementary schools throughout the St. Louis area.
This is a very part-time position designed to supplement and complement school, another job, freelance work, retirement, or other activities. Instructors typically teach two to four afternoons per week, depending on their availability and our program schedule.
Prior classroom or art-teaching experience is helpful, but you do not need to be a professional artist or certified teacher. We provide the curriculum, lesson plans, training, supplies, and support you need to lead successful classes.
Position Details
  • Pay: $20 per hour
  • Schedule: Two to four weekday afternoons per week
  • Typical class time: Approximately one hour, generally beginning between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.
  • Program season: Classes are scheduled during the school year
  • Location: Elementary schools throughout the St. Louis area
  • Office and training location: University City, Missouri

What You Will Do
As an After-School Art Instructor, you will:
  • Lead structured, hands-on art projects for groups of approximately 10 to 20 elementary-age children
  • Create a positive, encouraging, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Explain art techniques and project instructions in an age-appropriate manner
  • Encourage creativity while keeping students engaged and on task
  • Prepare materials before class and clean and organize supplies afterward
  • Transport program materials to and from assigned schools
  • Communicate professionally with school staff, parents, and the Imagine Arts Academy office
  • Follow all program, school, and child-safety procedures

  • Be able to transport and carry program supplies

  • Be willing to complete required training
  • Be able to pass applicable background-screening requirements
Preferred Experience
We welcome applicants with experience in areas such as:
  • Art, design, illustration, crafts, or other creative fields
  • Teaching, substitute teaching, tutoring, or classroom assistance
  • Camps, after-school programs, childcare, or youth programming
  • Working with groups of elementary-age children
  • Education, art education, fine arts, or a related course of study
