Job description

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to assist with the daily allocation of resources and coordination of activities to ensure a smooth operation. Performs a variety of laboratory tasks related to specimen receiving, processing, sample storage, archiving, data entry of patient information, lab orders, telephone inquiries, and related problem resolution. Responsible for maintenance of laboratory equipment and supply distribution. Provides functional supervision of shift personnel.
This position is 100%-time, 1st shift from 0700-1530, with rotating holidays and potential for on-call.
Duties to include:
• Operates laboratory equipment to complete waived and moderately complex testing on laboratory clinical specimens as assigned.
• Performs or directs routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and cleaning as assigned.
• Ensures optimal service to clients through communications with external and internal laboratories and support staff.
• May provide functional supervision through the daily allocation of resources and coordination of activities.
• Performs phlebotomy as necessary

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
• Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
• Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
• Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.
Special Qualification:
• Meets CLIA 88 requirements and qualifications to perform waived testing (point of care testing). Must be able to provide a high school diploma (or equivalent) if no post-secondary degree.
Desirable Qualifications:
• High volume public contact
• Experience performing waived testing, including releasing test results.
• Phlebotomy experience is highly desirable.
