Web Operations Specialist (PSS1), Division of Marketing & Communication

This position will specifically and comprehensively support the infrastructure and operations for the Rowan University website(s). This role requires a high degree of technical autonomy and deep knowledge of server administration.

The position reports to the Director of Web Strategy and Development in the Rowan University Division of Marketing & Communication. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is to be expected. Candidates must follow the residency requirements outlined by the New Jersey AFT.

Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions

  • Configure and perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance of Rowan's CMS and web server cluster.
  • Remediate server performance or outage notices in a timely fashion.
  • Build and maintain reliable development, staging, and test environments to support the Web Services team, ensuring parity with production systems.
  • Implement industry web standards and best practices throughout the Rowan University website, with particular awareness for performance.
  • Work collaboratively on various projects with developers, other departments, and external vendors/service providers.
  • Serve as the team's liaison for university-wide operations. Regularly attend Change Management meetings to align with upcoming maintenance, network outages, and current technology events.
  • Work with Rowan's Information Security Office to address and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation regarding back-end processes.
  • Manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Provide support for other, various Rowan University projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:
  • A master's degree in web development, computer science, information technology, or related degree.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of professional experience working as an web or dev ops specialist, full-stack developer, programmer, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with LAMP web application stack development.
  • Knowledge administering Linux web servers running Apache, PHP, MySQLand other backend server technologies.
  • Comfortability with regular expressions.
  • Experience supporting the CI/CD pipeline utilizing Git and GitHub.
  • Understanding of the entire web development process (design, development, testing, and deployment).
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as Cascade, Drupal, or WordPress.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to work independently to solve problems with minimal supervision.
Preferred:
  • Experience with AlmaLinux, CentOS, or RHEL
  • Experience with Linux shell scripting to automate server and development processes. Experience supporting Apache Tomcat applications
  • Back-end or full-stack development experience.
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, Sass, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with Apache Velocity.
  • Experience using Cascade Content Management System by Hannon Hill.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
  • Experience using project management tools.
  • Experience supporting web systems in a higher education environment.
  • Proven ability to stay current with rapidly-changing technologies.

Salary: In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 27, ($85,550.86 to $98,388.88), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors. 

For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10).
