What is a web manager?

A web manager is responsible for maintaining, designing, and developing a business website, based on the field or specifications set by a client. Your duties include monitoring, assessing, and reporting on online content performance, ensuring a website functions and software is up-to-date, and handling a range of online marketing projects from search engine optimization to social media practices. You may also develop content and monitor web traffic. Since you oversee staff, communication skills are vital. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of proven on-the-job experience for this career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Manager, you need expertise in website management, content strategy, SEO, and analytics, often supported by a degree in web design, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Google Analytics, and basic HTML/CSS is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding Web Managers apart. These abilities are crucial for ensuring optimal website performance, user experience, and alignment with business objectives.

What are the main challenges a web manager faces when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Web Managers often collaborate with marketing, IT, design, and content teams to ensure the website aligns with business goals and user needs. One common challenge is balancing differing priorities and timelines from each department, which requires strong communication and project management skills. Additionally, translating technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders and ensuring consistent branding across all web assets can be demanding. Successful Web Managers are proactive in setting clear expectations, facilitating regular meetings, and fostering an environment of open feedback.

Job description

About Us

Gather, based in Meridian, Idaho, is a rapidly growing company dedicated to revolutionizing funeral technology. Our innovative platform is designed specifically for funeral homes, driven by our deep respect for funeral directors and their vital role in supporting families during times of loss. We recognize that guiding loved ones through such difficult moments is one of the most honorable professions, so our team has committed years to reimagining funeral home software from the ground up. Our vision is to equip funeral directors with world-class solutions that enhance their operations and the family's experience.

The Job

At Gather, building a great website requires two things: cutting-edge technology and flawless execution. We already have the automated workflows, AI tools, and external design contractors ready to go. What we need is the driver.

We are looking for a dynamic, high-ownership Website Project Manager to join our growing team. This is not a traditional, "behind-the-scenes" project management role. We need a hybrid professional - someone who is deeply organized and customer-obsessed, but who also possesses the digital literacy and eye for design to direct beautiful, high-performance website builds.

Our funeral home owners and directors are incredibly busy people. When life happens, projects stall and communication slips. That is where you come in. As the single point of contact and ultimate owner of individual website builds, you will guide customers from initial kickoff through design reviews until the site goes live. You will be using AI tools to outline website design, build deep rapport with our customers, ruthlessly manage timelines to prevent "customer stall," and direct our AI tools and external contractors to execute the heavy lifting.

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drive the Project Lifecycle: Own the end-to-end timeline for website builds. You are responsible for keeping projects on schedule, hitting deadlines, and driving high-quality website launches.
  • Master Customer Communication: Serve as the proactive, single point of contact for customers. You will lead kickoff calls, provide clear status updates, and translate technical web concepts into friendly, everyday language.
  • Overcome "Customer Stall": Actively diagnose why a project has gone quiet, pick up the phone, re-engage the customer, and help them make decisions to cross the finish line.
  • Direct Design & Quality Assurance: Partner with customers to understand their vision, and then direct our AI tools and external design contractors to build it. You will review the work with a sharp eye for quality before it ever reaches the customer.
  • Manage Technical Onboarding: Own the project initialization steps, coordinate internal team needs, and oversee the website launch processes.

About You

You are a "builder" and a momentum-driver who takes personal pride in owning your results and hitting KPIs. You are passionate about aesthetic excellence, but you are equally driven by project velocity and customer satisfaction. You thrive in fast-paced environments where technology is constantly evolving, and you are excited by the prospect of using AI to handle repetitive tasks so you can focus on the human side of project management.

In this role, you will be tackling our team’s most critical challenge head-on. We serve funeral homes that take care of families during life’s hardest moments; your proactive leadership and clear communication won’t just keep projects on track - it will bring our customers peace of mind when they need it most.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Project or Account Management: 2+ years of experience managing a high-volume queue of customers or projects where proactive communication was the key to success.
  • High-Empathy Communicator: You love talking to customers. You know how to push a project forward firmly but with deep empathy for how busy our customers are.
  • The "Translator" Ability: You don't need to be a developer, but you must speak the language of the web so you can comfortably coordinate technical launch tasks and direct contractors.
  • AI-Forward Mindset: Actively curious about using modern AI tools to speed up workflows and scale your creative/operational output.
  • Contractor Coordination: Experience giving clear, actionable feedback to external partners or overseas design teams to keep deliverables aligned with client goals.

Nice to have:

  • Digital & Web Literacy: A background in web design, web development, or digital marketing. You understand layout, UX principles, and the basic anatomy of a website build.
  • Some familiarity with domain and DNS management.

Additional Information

At Gather, you will have access to top-notch medical coverage, comprehensive vision and dental plans, a 401k with match eligibility to secure your financial future and the following:

  • 24/7 online physician consultations
  • Virtual mental health resources
  • Life coaching
  • Engaging employee community groups
  • Cash rewards for healthy habits and fitness reimbursements
  • Library of on-demand fitness videos

This position can be in-office or remote.

Be part of a high-growth, team-oriented company that offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and meaningful opportunities to grow your career.
