Job description

Who We Are:

At OPENLANE we make wholesale easy so our customers can be more successful.

We're a technology company building the world's most advanced-and uncomplicated-digital marketplace for used vehicles.

We're a data company helping customers buy and sell smarter with clear, actionable insights they can understand and use.

And we're an innovation company accelerating the future of wholesale remarketing through curiosity, collaboration, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Our Values:

Driven Waybuilders. We pursue challenges that inspire us to build, create, and innovate.

Relentless Curiosity. We seek to understand and improve our customers' experience.

Smart Risk-Taking. We transform risk into progress through data, experience, and intuition.

Fearless Ownership. We deliver what we promise and learn along the way.

We're Looking For:

We are looking for a talented Front-End Marketing Engineer to join OPENLANE's Marketing & Communications team. In this hands-on individual contributor role, you will own and evolve the digital front door for OPENLANE's brand, campaigns, and customer communications. You will build, maintain, and optimize the digital experiences that support our brand, campaigns, product launches, events, and customer engagement.

The ideal candidate is a front-end developer with strong HTML, CSS, JavaScript, WordPress, CMS, and modern web development experience. You'll help manage and evolve OPENLANE's marketing website ecosystem using GitHub, managed hosting environments, Astro, WordPress CMS, and other modern tools. We're also looking for someone who is excited to build differently. AI is a key part of how we move faster, improve quality, and scale our digital marketing work. You should be comfortable using tools such as OpenAI, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, and other AI-assisted development platforms to write, test, document, optimize, and ship code more efficiently.

You Are:

  • A builder: You enjoy creating polished, functional, responsive websites and digital experiences that bring ideas to life.

  • AI-first: You actively use AI tools to speed up development, improve code quality, troubleshoot issues, generate documentation, test ideas, and explore better ways to build.

  • Detail-oriented: You care about clean code, visual accuracy, performance, accessibility, SEO, security, and the overall user experience.

  • Collaborative: You work well with creative teams, marketers, designers, communications partners, product owners, agencies, and technical stakeholders.

  • Resourceful and curious: You can troubleshoot inherited codebases, research solutions, manage competing priorities, and stay current with front-end, CMS, AI, and marketing technology trends.

  • Customer-focused: You understand that marketing websites are often a customer's first experience with a brand, and you build with clarity, usability, and business impact in mind.

You Bring:

  • Core knowledge: Strong foundation in modern web standards, responsive design methodologies, semantic HTML5, CSS3, performance optimization, technical SEO fundamentals, accessibility guidelines, and digital marketing site architecture.

  • Functional expertise: Proven track record in translating high-fidelity designs (Figma/Adobe Creative Cloud) into semantic code, managing end-to-end website deployments, supporting marketing measurement workflows (analytics tagging, tracking pixels), and managing custom WordPress workflows.

  • Technical expertise: Proficiency in modern JavaScript, component-based styling frameworks (Sass, Tailwind CSS, or CSS Grid/Flexbox), Astro or similar static/hybrid front-end frameworks, GitHub version control, PHP/MySQL within WordPress environments, and AI-assisted development tools (OpenAI, Gemini, GitHub Copilot).

You Own:

  • Building, maintaining, and optimizing marketing websites, landing pages, campaign experiences, microsites, and related digital properties across OPENLANE.

  • Designing and developing reusable front-end components, templates, and design patterns to improve deployment speed and system scalability.

  • WordPress configuration, including custom theme development, plugin implementation, CMS architecture, content workflows, and security updates.

  • Codebase management via GitHub, covering branching, pull requests, comprehensive code reviews, and technical documentation updates.

  • Troubleshooting, debugging, and refactoring inherited or existing codebases to maintain performance, accessibility, and reliability.

You Drive:

  • Execution: Converting design compositions from Figma and Creative Cloud into accessible, responsive web experiences while deploying seamless website updates across development, staging, and production environments.

  • Results: Accelerated development cycles via AI-assisted workflows, improved page speed and SEO metrics, consistent UI across the digital marketing ecosystem, and high-visibility digital experiences that support growth, product launches, and customer engagement.

Who You Will Work With:

  • Reporting to the Creative Director, this role will collaborate closely with designers, writers, product marketers, communications partners, and business stakeholders across OPENLANE on a daily basis. You will also partner with software engineering, IT, security, analytics, product, external agencies, and hosting partners as needed to ensure marketing websites are stable, secure, and scalable.

Where You Work:

  • Your work is performed as Hybrid in Carmel, IN or Toronto, CA, or Remote within the USA or Canada.

Must Haves:

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on web development experience, preferably in a marketing, creative, agency, corporate communications, or brand environment.

  • Deep proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, modern JavaScript, responsive frameworks (Tailwind CSS, Sass), and component-based workflows.

  • Proven experience building and managing WordPress websites, including custom themes, templates, plugins, PHP, and MySQL.

  • Hands-on experience with Astro or similar modern front-end frameworks, alongside GitHub version control and multi-environment deployment pipelines.

  • Demonstrated capability using AI-assisted tools (OpenAI, Gemini, GitHub Copilot) to optimize and accelerate front-end development tasks.

  • Portfolio, GitHub profile, or relevant examples of live websites, landing pages, front-end builds, or case studies required.

Nice to haves

  • Experience within the automotive, marketplace, B2B, SaaS, or technology-driven business sectors.

  • Site reliability knowledge, including uptime monitoring, error tracking, logging, alerting, and post-launch QA.

  • Advanced web security insight, including content security policies, vulnerability remediation, and secure third-party integrations.

  • Experience with hosting and infrastructure platforms like AWS, Cloudflare, WP Engine, Netlify, or Vercel.

  • Advanced analytics implementation skills, including server-side tagging, consent management, attribution tracking, and data layer strategy.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive pay

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits with employer HSA contributions (US) and FSA options (US)

  • Immediately vested 401K (US) or RRSP (Canada) with company match

  • Paid Vacation, Personal, and Sick Time

  • Employer-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, and AD&D (US)

  • Robust Employee Assistance Program

  • Employer paid Leap into Service Day to volunteer

  • Tuition Reimbursement for eligible programs

  • Opportunities to expand your skill set and share your knowledge across a publicly traded, global organization

  • Company culture of internal promotions, diverse career paths, and meaningful advancement
