Job description

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.
Role and Scope of Position:
This position is designed to help solve challenges Eversource faces in blue sky as well as grey sky days. In blue sky days, the individual will develop problem solving strategies and architect solutions. During grey sky days, the individual will work on using analytics help storm restoration, damage assessment and give the best situational awareness to crews helping restore power to thousands of Eversource customers. The individual should possess a sense of urgency, an inherent curiosity to learn facets of utility business, and should be equipped with modern machine learning tools to solve challenges.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads data science solution brainstorming and develop problem solving strategy
  • Works with IT teams to develop solution production strategy
  • Interfaces with teams across Eversource to understand data landscape and identify opportunities to leverage data streams from different groups
  • Develops robust model evaluation criteria, establishes success criteria for solution development and provides concrete instructions to data engineers and junior data scientists
  • Develops classifiers and tools leveraging machine learning, data regression, and rules-based models
  • Codes deliverables in tandem with the engineering team
  • Helps develop web applications which use the above developed ML models to provide business value
  • Supports roadmaps for Substation Data Analytics and support of Asset and Grid engineering and performance management
  • Supports in design and execution of Asset and Grid performance models, and Digitalization.
  • Works with SMEs within Eversource and overall industry, to help address the most complex issues
  • Supports in various application of intelligent overloading, dynamic ratings, failure mode and incipient faults, cyber and physical security enhancement, online testing/parameter estimation, performance monitoring and insights, opportunities in digital substations, leverage IED and SCADA data for operational problems prediction, or outage management, etc.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Experience with setting up cloud architecture and CI-CD tools
  • Experience with scripting languages such as R, Python, and shell scripts
