Job description

VIP is seeking a highly skilled IT Systems Engineer 3 to join our IT Systems Team. This role is pivotal in analyzing, testing, and building leading-edge solutions, focusing heavily on advanced process automation, security, and scalability. As an IT Systems Engineer 3, you will be a key leader in designing and implementing complex software systems, ensuring they are reliable, secure, and scalable.
Position Type: Full Time, Hybrid. This position will report to our office headquarters in Colchester, VT
Key Responsibilities:
  • Automation & Scripting: Achieve significant process automation using tools like Ansible, PowerShell, and bash to increase system efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
  • System Design & Implementation: Design, implement, and maintain complex systems across our x64/x86 servers, applications, and virtualized environments. Implement web hosting technologies such as reverse proxies (HAProxy) and web servers (Tomcat, IIS).
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Perform diagnosis of root cause for incidents, troubleshoot unique challenges, and execute full resolution steps, especially for VIP infrastructure.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust system security measures, adhere to SOC1&2 security policies, and assist with audits. Work with 3rd-party cloud solutions (Akamai, Crowdstrike, Okta, Google, Microsoft) where appropriate. Implement Identity and Access Management best practices where appropriate.
  • Collaboration & Mentoring: Work closely with IT Security, Middleware, IBMi, and other teams. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced Systems Engineers (Level I, II).
  • Strategy & Research: Research new tools and services, leading deployment projects from beta testing to full rollout, and staying current with emerging technologies.

Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in software or systems engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (relevant certifications and work experience may substitute for a degree).
  • Solid scripting and automation experience.
  • Advanced understanding of Windows and Linux Servers, and networking knowledge (OSI layers, TCP/IP).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization/containerization (Nutanix AHV/AOS is a plus).
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles, Agile/Waterfall methodologies, and strong adherence to change control and documentation standards.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, or CISSP are a plus.
  • Excellent analysis, critical thinking, and communication skills, with a methodical and detail-oriented approach.

Compensation: $90,000 - $130,000/year
Compensation is based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, and industry background. The range listed here represents our best faith estimate for the role.
