Position Summary
The Career Coach and College Liaison will support the career development of students through providing career assessments, career related training and resources, and programming designed to connect students with their majors and future career goals. Career Coaches are essential members of the Career Center team, reporting to the Director for Career Development and serving on teams to facilitate Career Engagement efforts and Career Fairs and Events. This Career Coach will work directly with the College of Education and Human Development as well as students in Exploratory Studies.
Essential Functions
Career Coaching
  • Develop knowledge of academic programs within area of responsibility, and build knowledge of career pathways and opportunities for students within those fields.
  • Coach students through the process of deciding on their major and/or career, including administering and interpreting career assessments.
  • Assist students in creating individualized career plans to help meet their individual post-graduation goals.
  • Connect students with hands-on career experiences in their field (job shadowing, internships, employment, etc.).
  • Help students develop career readiness skills such as resume writing, interviewing, networking, professional development, etc., tailored to their field of study.
  • Help students identify and develop skills employers are seeking in graduates.
  • Teach students how to articulate their skills and experiences to employers and/or graduate schools.
  • Direct students on how to find and apply for jobs in their field.

College Liasion
  • Develop relationships with alumni from the college they represent and connect students with alumni for job shadowing, informational interviews, and career-related advice.
  • Assist in developing employer relationships with the college/department they represent.
  • Partner with colleges and departments to develop and carry out workshops, fairs, events, etc., that further the career development of students in the college/department.

Career Center Support
  • Facilitate Career Center programming including drop-in hours, workshops, and career events.
  • Participate in events and meetings within the areas of support to further knowledge, develop partnerships, and demonstrate support.
  • Track student progress and assist with annual post-graduate survey reporting efforts.

Additional Functions:
  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting the needs of the Career Center and liaison college in various ways such as office coverage, event participation, occasional student worker supervision, or other needs that may arise.

Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4 Year / Bachelors degree and 2+ years of professional work experience.
  • Professionalism, discretion, tact, and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituents and build relationships.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Resume writing and developing and delivering workshops are expectations in this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications quickly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 3-5 years relevant work experience..
  • Work experience in an area related to the College with which Coach will work.
  • Experience working with college students or in higher education settings.
  • Previous experience with career coaching or advising.
  • Experience with web-based career services programs.
