How much does a website designer get paid?

The average salary for a web designer varies depending on experience, location, and skill level, but typically ranges from $40,000 to $80,000 annually. Web Designers often collaborate with developers, product managers, and marketers, which can present challenges such as balancing creative vision with technical constraints and business goals. Building productive relationships with team members and being open to iteration helps ensure project success.

What are Web Designers?

Web Designers are professionals who create the visual layout, design, and user experience of websites. They use various design tools and coding languages like HTML, CSS, and sometimes JavaScript to create attractive and functional websites that meet client needs. Web Designers collaborate with clients or teams to ensure websites are user-friendly, responsive, and visually appealing. They also consider factors such as branding, accessibility, and usability throughout the design process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Designer, you need a solid understanding of graphic design principles, HTML/CSS, and user experience (UX) fundamentals, often backed by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and content management systems (CMS) is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with clients and development teams. These competencies ensure visually appealing, user-friendly websites that meet client goals and industry standards.

Is web design still worth it in 2026?

Web design remains a valuable profession in 2026, as businesses continue to prioritize online presence and user experience. Web designers with skills in responsive design, UX/UI, and proficiency in tools like Adobe XD or Figma are in demand, especially as websites evolve to meet new standards and technologies.

Job description

Overview
Apex Service Partners: Web Designer
About Apex Service Partners
Apex Service Partners is a people-focused HVAC, plumbing, and electrical services group whose goal is to partner with and build leading local brands around the country. We are building an internal website team to take more of our digital presence in-house, and we are looking for a Web Designer to help shape how our brands look, feel, and convert across the web at scale.
About the Role
Reporting to the Web Developer, the Web Designer is responsible for building the visual and UX foundation of our in-house website program. In the first 120 days, this person will develop brand and design standards, build a reusable component library in Figma, design core page templates, and deliver designs for the first sites rebuilt on our master WordPress template. The ideal candidate brings a strong eye for conversion-focused design, deep experience with Figma and WordPress, and the discipline to build systems that scale across a large, multi-brand portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Design Standards & Systems
  • Collaborate with the creative team to develop and document typography, color, spacing, and component standards across Apex brands
  • Build a reusable component and block design library in Figma, aligned to the master WordPress template, covering heroes, services, forms, CTAs, and more
  • Establish, document, and apply mobile-first design standards consistently across site templates
  • Document CRO best practices covering forms, CTAs, hero structure, and social proof placement for use across the team

Site Design & Delivery
  • Conduct a visual consistency, UX, and brand audit of in-house sites, delivering a prioritized action list to the Web Developer and leadership
  • Design 8 to 10 core page templates including home, service, location, contact, blog, and others
  • Deliver full site designs on the master template, targeting three or more completed site designs within the first 120 days
  • Own the design-to-dev handoff process, including a documented workflow with specs, assets, and review checkpoints

Collaboration & Quality
  • Work closely with the Web Developer to ensure designs are technically feasible and align with the WordPress block library
  • Partner with the Content Writer to ensure design templates support content frameworks and brand voice across all page types
  • Maintain design quality and visual consistency across a growing portfolio of in-house sites
  • Serve as the cross-functional design voice in conversations with SEO, PPC, and Analytics teams

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in web design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating UX, visual design, and conversion-focused thinking
  • Proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, auto-layout, and developer handoff flows
  • Solid understanding of WordPress and how design systems translate into block-based themes and page builders
  • Strong grasp of mobile-first design principles and responsive layout best practices
  • Knowledge of CRO principles, including form design, CTA placement, and user behavior patterns
  • Ability to work within brand guidelines across multiple brands and maintain visual consistency
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable presenting design decisions to executives
  • Experience working in a multi-location or home services environment a plus
  • Familiarity with ADA accessibility standards and web design compliance a plus
  • Experience with project management tools such as Monday.com a plus

Role Requirements
  • Role is full time in Irving-Las Colinas, TX
  • All employees must work in our office 4 days a week, with Wednesday being work-from-home
  • Travel Requirements: 10%

Pay Transparency
The annual pay opportunity for this role ranges from $65,000 to $80,000 DOE. The actual pay is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
We provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO). Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate for this position. It assumes a rate based on location and experience.
Apex Service Partners is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We provide equal employment opportunities to everyone regardless of their race, ethnicity, beliefs, religion, marital status, gender, gender identity, citizenship status, age, veteran status, or disability. We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in this position; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
